Sweet Home Season 2 (2023) K Drama Episode 7

Episode 7 of Sweet Home Season 2 begins with a flashback. Yi-kyung tries to kill Mystery Girl when she is born. Hyun-su watches her but she can’t and leaves the infant with him. He raises her and Mystery Girl sees him as her father. Yi-kyung watches them from afar and finally approaches them on seeing that her daughter is normal.

But her fear returns when Mystery Girl grows up and possesses the men who hurt her. Yi-kyung cuts her and in defence, Mystery Girl hurts her eye. Yi-kyung forces her to wear gloves and Hyun-su is upset with the way she is treating her daughter.

Back to the present, Hyun-su saves Eun-yu. She realises he was the one who saved her from the monsters at the abandoned site. She tries to go to him but he is cold and keeps her away with his wing. Ho-sang interrupts with a gun and he leaves. 

Mystery Girl and Hyun-su bicker as she hates humans for hurting her and killing her friends. He tries to reason with her but she is vengeful. She doesn’t need him or her mother and he realises what she’s done.

Yi-kyung returns to a burning boat and faints. The baby monster tries to help her but is hurt. Hyun-su arrives in time and saves them. She says it is her fault that Mystery Girl turned into a monster and Hyun-su is sickened that a mother would hate and have murderous intent for her own daughter. He shows her the injured baby monster trying to help Yi-kyung and points out that monsters were human once too.

Meanwhile, Ho-sang and Eun-yu return to Ha-ni trying to wake Chan-young. They realise that he has been poisoned as he couldn’t handle the mushrooms. Ho-sang gets a bitter antidote for Chan-young who is barely conscious. Eun-yu is worried but also annoyed as she is stuck babysitting him.

Back at the base, Kim wants to rescue Choi alone but everyone shows up including Dr. Lim thanks to Seok-chan. Only Tak and his men stay back to protect the stadium. 

Meanwhile, Ye-seul, who knew Chan-young before he enlisted, cries over him. An emboldened Seon-hwa drags her to Peter’s mass where Ye-seul steals from his drinks stash. They start drinking and listening to music and a couple of others show up including Ji-na, Jin-ok, Gi-chun and Jin-guk. They all confess their dreams and fears. Ye-seul and Seon-hwa start dancing and everyone enjoys the vibe.

On the way, Dr. Lim needs to relieve himself and breaks off a part of a monster cocoon. Several monsters team up to stop him and they barely escape. At Bamseom, they are surprised to see the derelict status as it has only been a year since the bombing. They split up – Seok-chan and Kim are with Dr. Lim while Seo-jin takes the rest to search for Choi.

Meanwhile, Jin-ok notices Seon-hwa drawing a house and constantly boasting that she is rich. Yeong-su lashes out at them while Jin-guk tries to flirt with Ye-seul and hears a monster’s snarl. So does Ji as the noise comes from her room’s outer wall. Ye-seul tries to investigate and Ji begs her for a favour.

Tak and the men get a monster alert and following it, they reach Ji’s basement and decide to gather everyone. Jin-ok searches for Yeong-su who is hanging with Ye-seul. She tells him to apologise as Jin-ok worries. But she sneaks out when Ji shows up.

At the forefront, the military intimidates the humans and Ji tells Tak to lead by example. He cuts his arm but just as he heals, the lights go off and no one finds out. Ji rushes to her secret room from where the noise came and sees a ladder heading down a tunnel.

At Bamseom, Lim searches for something while U-seok is caught in a cocoon. Seo-jin goes in shock as a bloody goop follows his group. Lim comes across a glowy cocoon but hesitantly agrees to focus on finding the unnamed asset while Kim and Seok-chan leave to save Seo-jin’s group.

At Ho-sang’s camp, as he explains his distrust for humans and reasoning for not living at the stadium, Hyun-su shows up with a burned Yi-kyung. Eun-yu hugs him and Chan-young realises he is the monster protecting her. Ho-sang shoots Hyun-su and she threatens Ha-ni.

However, she is easily overpowered as an uninterested Ha-ni drags Ho-sang away who is stunned as Eun-yu points out monsters are humans too. Alone, Eun-yu and Chan-young take Hyun-su and Yi-kyung back to the stadium.

Meanwhile, Tak hallucinates killing all survivors including his son. Dong-jun interrupts but Tak doesn’t move and the soldier sees that Tak’s arm has healed at the end of Sweet Home Season 2 Episode 7.

The Episode Review

Sweet Home Season 2 Episode 7 is possibly the best episode yet. All the characters are moving forward, in some kind of dilemma or situation. Ho-sang’s motives are finally revealed while also reinforcing Hyun-su’s faith in humanity when Eun-yu defends him. Though this may throw a wrench in the Ye-seul, Chan-young, Eun-yu, Hyun-su love square.

Lim slightly disappoints us as the main antagonist but Tak more than makes up for that as we see him spiralling and giving into his monster self. Doubt he will be a special infectee but we are still rooting for him. And while we thought Seok-chan and Kim were bound to die, it seems to be the other way around.

The plot twists and suspense is confusing but not so much that it irks us like in episode 4. It simply sets the stage for the finale which is bound to be complex as it goes about solving all the problems, or at least most of them. Hopefully they don’t leave us hanging till season 3 airs a year later.
