My Demon (2023) KDrama Episode 5

My Demon episode 5 picks up with Do-hee and Gu-won dancing Tango while fighting the men attacking them. Suddenly, the music stops as Gu-won recites the three rules of a bodyguard and looks into Do-hee’s eyes while she is still in his embrace. He abruptly lets go of her as he realises he is falling for her. 

Do-hee is shocked, and police sirens rent the air. Gu-won asks her to leave, and they teleport to her apartment. Without saying much, Gu-won lets go of her hand and heads home. As expected, Do-hee finds his behaviour strange and tries to follow, but he barely looks at her. 

At the Sun-wool foundation, Ga-young gets injured while practising her sword dance. She can’t stop thinking about how close Do-hee and Guwon are getting. She asks Bok-gyu if there is any other choice, but Bok-gyu insists Gu-won must remain Do-hee’s bodyguard. He, however, assures Ga-young that Gu-won’s heart is ice cold, and he is unlikely to fall for Do-hee. Boy, is he wrong! 

Our demon’s heart is softening and he is shocked to admit he is falling for Do-hee. On the other hand, Do-hee questions Gu-won’s new attitude towards her and tries to act unaffected. However, she finds herself at the Sun-wool Foundation later that night, trying to establish if he has feelings for her. 

She runs into Ga-young, who tries to keep calm when she wants to tear Do-hee into pieces. She asks Do-hee to leave, but the latter insists she has a special relationship with Director Gu-won and heads to his office. She is surprised to see all the clocks and antique-style decor in his office. Gu-won suddenly shows up and questions why she is snooping around. 

Do-hee says she was worried after he left and wanted to check up on him. Ga-young interrupts them and flirts with Gu-won, making Do-hee jealous. After Ga-young leaves, Gu-won says that Do-hee is bothering him, and he left because he no longer wanted to spend time with her. This hurts Do-hee as she had assumed he has feelings for her and was there to confirm her suspicions. She decides to focus more on herself and pay Gu-won no mind. Even though Gu-won acts cold-heartedly, he calls someone to ensure Do-hee returns home safely. After this, he remains distracted even while watching Ga-young’s performance.

Elsewhere, Gwang-chol leaves the footage he recorded of Gu-won and Do-hee at the exchange spot and texts his accomplice to check a specific locker. Later, he also goes through the footage and discusses it with someone named Abraxas in a chatroom. They talk about Gu-won and how it is the latter’s fault; they couldn’t get anything from the footage. Gwang-chol assures the other party that he will get the job done even with Gu-won’s interference. 

In the meantime, Do-gyeon gets angry after his therapist secretly refers to him as a lunatic. He attacks the man in the toilet and gives him a beating of his life. He heads home, and his dad asks how long Mr Cha worked for him. Apparently, Mr Cha worked for Do-gyeon for two years and got greedy. Suk-min notices the blood stains on his wife’s shirt and asks his wife what their son has been up to. As expected, Se-ra doesn’t care nor know what Do-gyeon has been up to. In fact, it seems like she was the one who killed Cheon-sook or was at least there when she died. 

Suk-min is also suspicious as he threatens the board of directors to elect him the acting chairman. He had the forethought to covertly bribe the board of directors with the money gotten after disbanding the audit team and receiving money from a subcontractor—ultimately, the board of directors sides with him to save their skin.

The following day, there is tension between Gu-won and Gu-won. Even the employees notice something seems off between the two. The gossip and questions about whether they fought annoy Gu-won, and he starts acting out. He ignores Da-jeong’s order when she notifies him that Do-hee is on the move. 

Meanwhile, Bok-gyu disguises himself as a deliveryman and visits Do-hee’s office. Da-jeong mistakes him for the culprit and attacks him. Thankfully, Gu-won comes to his aid and clears the misunderstanding. As this goes on, Gwang-chol infiltrates the office and snoops around. 

Later, a board of directors meeting is held, and Do-hee is surprised that Suk-min quickly managed to get the shareholders on his side. Even Su-ahn is backing her brother up since he promised to invest in Mirae Clothings (her company).  

After the meeting, Su-ahn comes for Do-hee again and tries to cause a scene. Seok-hoon quickly comes to Do-hee’s defence, but the latter asks him to stand down. Suk-min also steps in, acting all gentlemanly but mocking Do-hee for being unable to find a man willing to marry her. Do-hee takes it all in her steps and assures them she will take over the chairwoman position soon. Su-ahn then turns her sights on Gu-won, but he is adamant he wants nothing to do with her. 

Gu-won is more pressed by the fact that Seok-hoon and Do-hee are secretly talking in the car. Seok-hoon informs Do-hee that he found something suspicious in the company’s accounts statement from two years ago. The company bought a ship at a higher price than usual, but the ship is nowhere to be found, and the company has recently gone under. Seok-hoon assures Do-hee to help her until the very end. This makes Gu-won jealous all over again. 

He then drives her to meet with a lawyer, who says they need more evidence to file a fraud case. Later, the police also inform Do-hee that they are not making progress in the case. After this, Do-hee goes on her blind date, and Gu-won becomes more jealous. He is more pissed when Do-hee asks her blind date to register their wedding later that afternoon. The man accepts the offer and they plan to meet at the district office. 

On the ride back, Gu-won continues to act indifferent and says he won’t care what Do-hee does anymore. Clearly, Do-hee is unhappy about the marriage but has no other choice. Gu-won is also trying to stop spending more time with her, so he suggest they find the culprit. He finds the mafia guy and threatens to hurt him if he doesn’t help to find Gwang-chol. Do-hee is shocked to see this side of Gu-won and refuses to lend him her arm anymore. In a fit of anger, they decide to stop working together and go their separate ways.

Do-hee arrives home after being dropped by Da-jeong and finds music playing in her house. Gwang-chol then uses chloroform on her and ties her to the rooftop. Once Do-hee wakes up, she starts screaming for help, and Gwang-chol starts loosening the sheet holding her up. Just as she is about to plummet to the ground, Gu-won appears out of nowhere and grabs her arm. The episode ends with Do-hee crying as Gu-won does his best to hold her and keep her from falling to her death. 

The Episode Review

It is clear that Gu-won is becoming more aware of his feelings for Do-hee. Did you see how he kept side-eyeing Seok-hoon? Jealous Gu-won is so funny and adorable. However, he is hurting Do-hee every time he pulls away from her. 

This episode made us more suspicious of Suk-min , Se-ra and Do-gyeon. They all had motive to kill Cheon-sook and Se-ra either caused Cheon-sook’s death or was present at the time of the old woman’s death and refused to help her. Suk-min desperately wants the company and might be working with Gwang-chol. However, Do-gyeon appears to be the most suspicious . Did Mr Cha find something out while working for him. Do-gyeon is completely unbalanced and might be the man in the leather jacket.

Lastly, we have Seok-hoon, he may be acting like a friend only to gain Do-hee’s trust before stabbing her in the back. He seems too goodt o be true. What is his deal?
