Queen of Tears K Drama 2024 with Kim Soo Huyn and Kim Ji Won Episode 2

Mar 11, 2024

In the last episode, we got a glimpse of Hae-in and Hyun-woo’s world. Hae-in spends her day as a CEO while Hyun-woo leads the legal team. These two seem as if they are young and in love but after three years of marriage, Hyun-woo becomes determined to get a divorce from her. The episode ended with Hae-in revealing her terminal diagnosis, forcing him to hide his decision to divorce her and instead confess his love for her.

Episode 2 continues from the previous episode. We get a glimpse into Hae-in’s condition. She has had issues with remembering and keeping track of time. She even couldn’t make it in time to meet Hyun-woo as she lost track of time. The doctor confirmed that she had a rare tumour called Cloud Cytoma. It causes her to forget and also causes multiple personality disorder. She tries to find a solution but with no cure, she can only live for three more months.

Cut to the present time, Hyun-woo gets up the next morning in a good mood, thinking he can part ways with her without divorce. He tries to change his mood and decides to spend time with her. On the way to the office, he asks her why she wouldn’t tell her family members but she is quick to shoot it down. She is sure that they would want to take over her assets but she will not let go of the Department Stores or her assets even when she dies.

Her brother Soo-cheol falls into trouble with his grandfather as he overpaid 8 billion Korean won in taxes, which Hyun-woo caught. This caused him to fall sick and his mother went on a warpath towards Hyun-woo. She crosses paths with Hae-in and we get to see her relationship with her mother. Despite her saying that there are more serious matters to look after in her life, her mother only cared for her brother.

In the next scene, Hyun-woo tells his lawyer friend about his situation. After learning about the will, he said to treat her well for the next three months so she could give him the Department Stores. The next few scenes show Hyun-woo hilariously going overboard for her with his acts. From peeling shrimp for her to holding her hands to warm her up- he gives his all. She immediately brings him back down, telling him to stop being so dramatic.

Queen of Tears Episode 2 Recap and Review: Kim Soo-hyun Displays Hilarious ‘Love Tactics’
During a family dinner, Hae-in’s mother informed her about the lawsuit regarding the land used by Hae-in for her department store, leading to Hae-in getting angry at her mother as well as her father. Hyun-woo interrupts them and takes her away from them. Suspicious of his behaviour, Hae-in berates him for trying to act out of character.

We also see the other members of Hae-in’s family, from Aunt Beomja crashing her ex’s wedding to her grandfather losing to his partner in a board game. We also come to know why her mother is angry at her- the loss of Su-wan and Hae-in is somehow related to it. With not many details, we see how she is still about Su-wan’s accident and blames Hae-in for it.

The scene moves to the opening of Hercyna, the store that she has been waiting to open in her department store. There she meets her ex-boyfriend Yoon Eun-sung, who is the right-hand man for Hercyna’s CEO. She meets with her rival who makes fun of her for not having her husband around. Hastily, she calls him and he finishes his trial for her. Happy to see him with her, she proudly takes him around. Eun-sung introduced himself to Hyun-woo and talked about his connection to Hae-in.

Even though he said he felt nothing, seeing them together, he gets the confusing feeling of jealousy. To add it all, Eun-sung was even invited to the family hunt. With the secret smiles exchanged, Hyun-woo feels left out. At the family hunt, Eun-sung and Hyun-woo have a tense conversation that seems deeper than it seems. On the other hand, Hae-in goes hunting and feels like she is in a different realm all of a sudden. Thinking that she is imagining a boar in front of her, she tries to take her medicine but Hyun-woo comes in time to save her.

Queen of Tears Episode 2 Review
The episode had moments of fun but felt like a filler episode already. A good chunk of the episode felt like it was being dragged unnecessarily. From the side characters’ day-to-day life to long, drawn-out dialogues that don’t add anything to the story- it seemed as though the makers wanted us to care for the side characters as much as the main couple. With only two episodes in, there isn’t enough context for us as viewers to care for the others.

We get to see more of Hyun-woo and Hae-in as a couple as the former tries to manipulate her into giving him the Queens Department Stores after she passes away. There are also moments of Hae-in’s true personality peeking through in different scenes, giving us an idea that she is like an onion – there are layers we need to peel to see the person she is on the inside. These moments are sweet and effective and the chemistry between the leads is quite nice as well.
