On April 1, the stars of MBC’s “Tomorrow” shared more about the drama at an online press conference!
Based on the hit webtoon of the same name, “Tomorrow” is a new fantasy drama starring SF9’s Rowoon as Choi Joon Woong, who gets into an unfortunate accident while struggling to find a job. As a result, he crosses paths with grim reapers Goo Ryun (Kim Hee Sun) and Lim Ryoong Goo (Yoon Ji On), who work together to save the lives of those who are contemplating suicide, and he winds up joining their team in the underworld as their youngest member.
Gathered at the press conference were main cast members Kim Hee Sun, Rowoon, Lee Soo Hyuk, and Yoon Ji On, as well as directors Kim Tae Yoon and Sung Chi Wook.
As it is based on such a popular webtoon, there is high anticipation for the drama. Director Sung Chi Wook commented, “I thought that as a drama, if we can express things that can be expressed visually, it will be differentiated from the webtoon. We also added fantasy aspects to the process of how these four use their unique abilities to comfort those contemplating death. We will be thankful if you watch carefully for these points.”
In her role as a grim reaper, Kim Hee Sun shared that she both gave and received comfort. She explained, “When you think of grim reapers, [you think they] they take people from this world. I’ve never seen a grim reaper who tries to stop people who are contemplating death. A grim reaper who saves people is not doing something amazing. These are people who feel comforted by a single warm comment or by having someone by their side. When I look at the situations in the drama, I feel sorry for them as human Kim Hee Sun. I acted while relating [to the story] and also feeling comforted.”
Rowoon explained that to play Joon Woong, he focused a lot on appearing ordinary. He shared, “Joon Woong’s skills are not skills that only he has. It’s a skill that everyone has. It’s charming for an ordinary person to save lives. What makes people live is other people, and what makes people die is also other people. I tried to convey an ordinary Joon Woong.”
Contrasting her previous roles, Kim Hee Sun flaunted a bold transformation for “Tomorrow,” rocking a short pink hairdo and smokey eye makeup. Regarding her new look, the actress shared, “A lot of people showed a lot of concern for my scalp. Thanks to this hair, I received a lot of attention. I’ve tried a lot of roles but it’s my first time trying one like this, so I tried to be bold.” She nonchalantly added, “Hair grows back and I just have to receive scalp treatment.”
Kim Hee Sun also touched on her great chemistry with Rowoon, commenting, “When I first went over lines with Rowoon, we matched so well, like people who had gone over lines together 100 times before. He always has so many ideas and suggestions so I’m thankful. The two of us talk a lot.”
Rowoon added, “Kim Hee Sun may be hard to approach, but she approaches you comfortably, so all the actors and staff members can act comfortably.”
Lee Soo Hyuk then shared, “Kim Hee Sun is one of the people who helped me dream of becoming an actor. It’s an honor just to be able to act together. On set, she gives us this exact energy. Kim Hee Sun is the biggest reason behind receiving good energy on set.”
Through “Tomorrow,” the actors promised to share a warm and positive message. Rowoon commented, “There’s a definite message that I want to convey. Joon Woong is not a hero. Everyone [in the drama] is an ordinary person. Regular people help other regular people live. The moment we acknowledge differences, all conflict disappears. The moment you start cherishing others as you cherish yourself, there is no conflict. The message that this drama gives is ‘Let’s love.'”
Kim Hee Sun shared her own take on the drama’s message, saying, “Still, let’s live. You have to live in order to do anything. There are more good people around you than you think.”
To close, Lee Soo Hyuk commented, “Many people are working hard to take a good original work and express it well to convey a good message. I hope you will watch over the process and the results.” Rowoon added, “I hope we can give you a little bit of a comfort.”
“Tomorrow” aired its premiere on April 1 and will air episode 2 on April 2 at 9:50 p.m. KST!
