Episode 10 of The Matchmakers begins with Soon-gu revealing that he is single because he feels bad for Soon-deok. She was married off to the sickly Jo son so Soon-gu could become lieutenant. At present, Soon-deok confesses her feelings to Jung-woo but says she cannot forget her dead husband. At that moment, they find the monk Socheon who reveals that he is the woman in the story and his father worked with Jo to hide his homosexuality.

Turns out, he and In-hyun found letters with a plan to kill Prince Unhae. But that night, Jo finds them together and stabs them. Socheon survives but Park takes the letters and stops their plan to kill the prince. Park’s secretary watches them from afar and informs Jo who tells him to bring Yeojudaek and the monk.

That night, Soon-deok tells Soon-gu that she is torn as she will end up hurting her father-in-law and wonders why family honour is more important than a child’s life. Soon-gu uses the chance to apologise for not calling off her wedding even though he had heard her fighting with their father. She starts crying and reveals she did love her husband and was fighting because her father had actually wanted to break off her marriage.

Meanwhile, Bu-kyum is paid to tutor Shi-yeol in wrestling. Shi-yeol tries to run to Doo-ri on seeing her but Bu-kyum trips him and tells him to focus on Ye-jin. At home, Soon-deok starts hallucinating Jung-woo wherever she goes. As for the real Jung-woo, he is busy finding legal evidence. He learns that In-hyun’s wife committed suicide so the rumour of So-hyun killing her is fake.

Chief Magistrate Kim accidentally reveals to Jo that Jung-woo is marrying off the old bachelors to old maidens. Jo wants to stop it but So-hyun doesn’t see a problem. In fact, Jung-woo of Dongro is helping Madam Maeng who is of the Jo clan. But even if all the spinsters are married, the Crown Prince won’t.

Elsewhere, Ha-na writes a letter to the Crown Prince. She gifts him a fan and hopes he will be a good official. But So-hyun intercepts his response to Ha-na. Impersonating her, she writes him a letter – to meet during the May Festival at the swings for a tour.

At home, Soon-deok eavesdrops when Jung-woo comes to tutor her son, Geun-sok. The kid asks why he is sad and he says he misses his late wife and contrary to the rumours, he loved her enough to give up his dream of being a Premier. The kid also says he misses his birth parents but loves his mother and Soon-deok smiles. After class, So-hyun congratulates Jung-woo for getting the Maeng sisters married and he wonders about her endgame.

On the day of the May Festival, Ye-jin is supposed to meet Shi-yeol but the night before they had agreed to do their own thing. She takes Geun-sok and goes to Bu-kyum’s who is about to leave. They end up hanging out by the river, fishing. Later, Bu-kyum dries her hair and she suddenly hopes he becomes an official and lives a happy life with his wife. They look sad as he wishes her a good marriage as well.

Sam-soon’s bachelor gets smitten by a woman foraging and eats a meal with her. While Soon-gu, Jung-woo and Soon-deok panic, Sam-soon accidentally falls into the river. Soon-gu saves her and ends up proposing to her. Jung-woo’s chest doesn’t pain anymore but his heart races and Soon-deok wonders if he is an Agent of Love.

During wrestling, Bu-kyum doesn’t show and Shi-yeol announces that he will win for Doo-ri. He loses but she is amused. He gifts her a hairpin and their eyes lock as he puts it in her hair.

At the swings, Ha-na’s bachelor is the only one who shows and is enamoured as she approaches him. Jung-woo and Soon-deok give them space and alone, he tells her that he wishes to spend the future May Festivals with her. He says they don’t need to forget their first loves but they can still have feelings for each other at the end of The Matchmakers Episode 10.

The Episode Review

The Matchmakers Episode 10 is a fun culmination of all the misunderstandings and matchmaking gone wrong. Absolved of the guilt, Soon-gu finally proposes to Sam-soon. Bu-kyum and Ye-jin, and Shi-yeol and Doo-ri get to spend time together, though we wonder how they will be able to switch their matches.

According to the next episode teaser, Ha-na’s bachelor is fated for another, so that makes Ha-na the Crown Prince’s love interest. But in all honesty, it feels a little icky since the prince is so young.

By the way, we are more and more confident that Soon-deok is not the Agent of Love but Jung-woo is. All her matchmaking is via observation and so far she has been lucky. But she fails to recognise Ye-jin and Bu-kyum’s love as well as Sam-soon and Soon-gu’s. Jung-woo does and it seems that he will finally realise why his chest pains.
