Episode 1 of The Escape of The Seven: Resurrection starts with a mysterious person watching videos of Bang Da-mi from her childhood taken by Lee Hwi-so and his wife. It shows her competition in school plays, the first day she joined elementary school, and the day she died. The person has the unedited version that shows how K killed Da-mi, and the person replays the death clip for a wife, pauses it, and then looks like they start crying.
The scene then goes to Knag Ki-tak, who hurriedly drives to the hospital to see Min Do-hyuk. It seems like he has regained consciousness after months of being in and out of it. They hug and cry, remembering how Lee Hwi-so died on the roof that fateful night, and the six betrayed him, choosing Mathew and leaving him and Ki-tak to die. After leaving the hospital, Ki-tak drives Do-hyuk to meet with his aunt Shim Mi-young, and along the way, he updates him on what Mathew and his minions have been up to.
After Lee Hwi-so’s death, Mathew used Luca to hack into every government computer in the world and take over Lee Hwi-so’s identity since Mathew had a bad reputation. Through Geum La-hui’s help, Mathew becomes the hero who fights for the truth, and, through a tearful act, he convinces the world that he is Lee Hwi-so. He stole Chairman Bang’s money and convinced the public that Min Do-hyuk was Shim Jun-seok, making him a wanted criminal. Ki-tak explains that Mathew has been able to do that through LUCA, but he has not made progress getting access to the flash drive that Lee Hwi-so left them.
They arrive at the meet-up location, and Mi-young wants Do-hyuk to fight, take over Sungchan Group, and avenge his parents’ death. She suggests that Do-hyuk get a new identity, but he turns her offer down, saying he will get revenge on Mathew and his minions. Do-hyuk vows to restore Sung-chan Group to its former Glory and take over the company correctly.
Mi-young offers him money, but he turns that down too. He tells Mi-young that she can let Mathew have all of Sung-chan Group’s subsidiaries, but she should keep S-talk as it will be their primary weapon against LUCA and TIKITAKA.
We are briefly introduced to a new player on a plane heading to South Korea, Hwang Chan-sung. Meanwhile, Mathew and Geum La-hui updated their minions on the following tasks after handing out 5 million to each. It seems that Yang Jin-mo is pretending to be on his side, and he silently thinks that he should not show any hostility until he finds Ha-na.
Mathew issued more orders, telling Jin-mo that he would become Seoul’s deputy mayor of political affairs and marry Myoung-ji. They need to move in together and create the image of a perfect family; no one should find out that they are disguising it.
Jin-mo tears the 5 million dollar chequebook apart as he remembers Madam No’s last words. He apologises for not keeping his promise, as he has not yet found Ha-na. Elsewhere, Chul-woo and Ju-ran splurge money at a restaurant but silently think that even though they have all the money, they are unhappy. They are rich but without freedom and are just Mathew’s slaves.
Consequently, Mo-ne thinks back to when she betrayed Do-hyuk, choosing to leave him on the roof and leave with Mathew. She tells herself that she needs to do that to survive. Later that night, she sneaks to her mother’s hotel to check on her from afar when she notices Ha-na. She walks in and tries to tell her to get rid of Ha-na, but her mother sends her away. She will keep Ha-na and will never make contact with Mo-ne. She rushes out to the ATM and withdraws some money, but by the time she returns to the restaurant to give it to her mother, the restaurant is already closed.
Min-young shows Do-hyuk and Ki-tak to their new hideout, an old electronics repair company owned by Lee Hwi-so’s father. Their first task is figuring out the flash drive password since they need to access LUCA soon. Do-hyuk intends to access LUCA directly at Mathew’s vacation home, and the mission is set to happen the following night at 10pm.
Jin-mo and Myoung-ji start their fake marriage by taking wedding photos, which Myoung-ji hangs in their new house. After the photo shoot, Jin-mo and Mathew meet with the Seoul Mayor to introduce Jin-mo as his new partner. The mayor is impressed by Jin-mo’s timidity, as he says that during his time in office, he will not think and will only follow the mayor’s instructions.
Later, Jin-mo heads to the house. He sits down to have a meal with Myoung-ji and her kids, but his mind keeps imagining Ha-na and Madam No. he abruptly leaves the dining table and tells Myoung-ji, who follows him into the bedroom that he will not play house with her indoors.
Mathew updates La-hui on the meeting with the mayor and shares his concern that Jin-mo will betray him someday. She mentions that the reason they have put Myoung-ji by his side is that she will do anything for her kids, to which Mathew slips the subtle insult that she is unlike La-hui, who murdered her daughter. La-hui takes no offence as they prepare for the next project about “Lee Hwi-so’s” fight against fake news.
As La-hui prepares to pack for her business trip to the United States, she finds a hard drive she snatched when the police raided TIKITAKA offices after Mathew was exposed. She reviews the files and finds Mathew’s plan to use Lee Hwi-so and a clip of Da-mi’s death.
Jun-seok was willing to spare Da-mi’s life as long as she gave permission to proceed to kill La-hui, her birth mother, but she chose to die instead and begged him for her life. Suddenly, La-hui has an outer body guilt trip experience that ends with her deciding to take her life but changes when she sees a vision of Da-mi’s adoptive mother, who symbolically asks her to kill Mathew. Therefore, La-hui decides that she will pay for her crimes after killing Mathew and heads to his vacation house.
Inside, he sees Do-hyuk and Kang Ki-tak trying to access Luca. She is relieved that they both survived, and in a slight flashback, we see her role in delivering Ki-tak to Lee Hwi-so in season 1. Outside, La-hui hears Mathew and his men arrive, and she breaks a vase to warn DO-hyuk and Ki-tak and then draws Mathews’ men away, giving Do-hyuk and Ki-tak a chance to escape. She runs into a swap and is caught up in a trap but still crawls away until she collapses outside a clinic. Meanwhile, Do-hyuk and Ki-tak return to their hideout and wonder who helped them.
La-hui prays for a last chance to become human and a little more time to kill Mathew before she dies. She wakes up inside a clinic, and the man tells her that he has given her first aid and will refer her to a doctor friend for treatment; otherwise, she will lose a foot. La-hui does not want to go to the hospital, and she tells the man to cut off her foot, taking it as punishment for all she did to Da-mi. La-hui survives the surgery and is recuperating at a remote place when she runs into Ha-na. Meanwhile, Mathew desperately tries to reach her, but her phone is unreachable.
Ki-tak gets Do-hyuk books about coding and tells him they must move fast since Michelle is not doing fine. At the same time, Michelle tries to commit suicide, but Do-hyuk arrives just in time and saves her. She says she has no reason to live since she cannot even get revenge for her sister.
The movie she was making about Da-mi has become Mathew’s tool for propaganda. Do-hyuk tells her to continue making the movie since taking Mathew down will be a systematic process. Do-hyuk plans to turn Mathew’s life as Lee Hwi-so into a nightmare, and he needs Michelle’s power to achieve that.
Mathew learns from Nam-chul that La-hui is back in the country, and he rushes over to her house. He suspects that she is the one who broke into his vacation house, and he knows that the person stepped into a trap and their feet are injured. Therefore, he asks La-hui to show him her legs, and it seems to throw him off the scent when she confidently walks towards him, but he does not seem convinced.
The next scene shows La-hui and Do-hyuk’s determination to get ready for the fight with K, with one learning coding from scratch and the other practising her walk in the mountains to ensure she never staggers or shows weakness in front of K.
Do-hyuk finally cracks LUCA’s firewalls and accesses the source code, but K has added a layer of protection where if he does not log in to the system within 72 hours, LUCA attacks every computer in the world. Do-hyuk thinks the only way to stop LUCA is to log in through the motherboard. Meanwhile, Michelle suggests shooting a documentary on Chairman Lee Hwi-so. K is reluctant to agree to the documentary, but Michelle adds that the documentary is essential since “K” is on the run, and she fears that people might forget him.
La-hui overhears Michelle on the phone with Do-hyuk and knows the documentary is a plot to expose K on camera, so she supports Michelle at the meeting. K is backed into a corner and has no reason to turn down Michelle’s documentary since he has to honour her memory as Da-mi’s father. La-hui escorts Michelle out and runs into Mo-ne as she heads into TIKITAKA studios. La-hui silently vows that the first person she will expose is Mo-ne for her role in Da-mi’s death. Meanwhile, Mo-ne thinks she will do anything to survive until she meets her mother again.
At the end of the episode, La-hui is seated before a screen, playing clips from Da-mi’s childhood. Elsewhere, Do-hyuk, Ki-tak, Mi-Young, and Michelle are at a gallery where they have displayed photos of their loved ones whose lives ended in K’s hands. They leave together, vowing to do their part until their first plan starts. Ki-tak vows to make sure that Do-hyuk is resurrected. They will work together and see their revenge plan until they make sure K pays for his crimes.
The first episode sets the premise for an exciting revenge journey ahead where people inside and outside K’s circle are all out to get him. Do-hyuk and his team will most likely get inside help from Jin-mo and La-hui, who are determined to get back at K before they eventually pay for their sins.
However, the last season taught us that there is no loyalty in life and death, and people can quickly turn against you if their lives are at stake. Will La-hui stay true to herself this season? Or will money and wanting to stay alive make her easily give up and continue serving K as his minion?
Will Jin-mo’s thirst for revenge since K killed Madam No rise above his selfish desires to get rich and stay alive? Who will win in the second showdown between the honest and loyal Min Do-hyuk and the evil, selfish, greedy, and malicious K? Let us tune in to the second season of The Escape of the Seven: Resurrection to find out.
