Episode 1 of Sweet Home Season 2 begins with the military experimenting on special infectees with Dr. Lim who believes humankind is a virus and monsters are the vaccine.
Sang-wook hijacks the truck with Hyun-su with the military trying to track them. Hyun-su realises that the driver is Ui-myeong who possessed Sang-wook and attacks him. Yi-kyung too follows them in a stolen military truck.
Ui-myeong toys with Hyun-su and provokes him by saying he killed Yu-ri and Sang-wook because Hyun-su annoyed him. As the military chases them, they cause an explosion on the bridge but Ui-myeong crosses it anyway and gets away. However, the military can’t kill them because Hyun-su is the last special infectee. Yi-kyung overhears this along with the fact that the monsters at central command are useless.
The remaining Green Home residents soon near the centre but the debris blocks the bridge. As the rest of the survivors are ordered to clear it and start crossing, the soldiers are ruthless, killing a human who has a nosebleed and beating those who make a fuss. A monster shows up and tries to run away and in the chaos, the soldiers kill several humans in trying to kill it.
The Green Home residents too start to run and make it to Soldier Chan-young’s truck. Eun-yu is left behind and as she takes the gun from a dead son and mother, Chan-young goes back for her much to his superior’s annoyance. Meanwhile, the monster spots a lost child and reunites with the mother but is shot in the process. Outside the melee, the superior starts beating Chan-young for defying him but Eun-yu coolly threatens him with the gun.
Sergeant Tak In-hwan shows up to clear the mess and finds a second baby monster. His men use it as leverage to burn the first one who may be the mother. However, he then lets off the baby monster, revealing that their objective is only to stop those who attack them.
As for our special infectees who like to be called neohumans, Ui-myeong stops at a mall to dress up and reveals that he helping Hyun-su who would surely be tortured and experimented on at the command centre in Bamseom. To sway Hyun-su, Ui-myeong shares that he won’t kill wantonly and even saves a woman from a monster. Their plan of action is to rescue the neohumans at the lab and Hyun-su gives in.
As they reach the entrance, Ui-myeong starts seeing Sang-wook’s memories of Yu-ri and even starts hallucinating. In his confusion, he runs the car into some soldiers and crashes. Hyun-su tries to help a soldier who is scared and tells him to put him out of his misery. Hyun-su cries as he kills the soldier.
Meanwhile, Yi-kyung threatens a major and enters Bamseom. She watches an experiment where a monster’s mother comes in close vicinity. The monster cuts her fingers and the guards kill it as the mother tries to stop them.
An injured Ui-myeong tries to change bodies but is unable. Hyun-su mocks him as he points out that they are not the chosen ones. He is just a parasite who cannot live without a human host. He starts dragging him to Bamseom while Ui-myeong tries to warn him about the experiments and begs him.
Hyun-su says it is because he is human that he wants to help. At the end of Sweet Home Season 2 Episode 1, the military shows up and shoots Hyun-su as Ui-myeong stops reasoning with him.
Sweet Home Season 2 Episode 1 answers all the questions that the finale left us. But is Sang-wook dead for sure or his memories were a way of him trying to take back his body? Poor Hyun-su must be so confused with the car crash. But why did he change his mind? Sure, Ui-myeong killed a couple of residents in cold blood, but his warning of Bamseom is legit.
The premiere also sets the foundation for the humans vs neohumans conflict as the soldiers are more monstrous than the monsters. Also, why is Yi-kyung infiltrating Bamseom, does she think her fiance is there? Glad to see at least the remaining Green Home residents, hope they are not separated.
