Zhang Li Yin is a Chinese singer-songwriter. She was on-track to become a professional violinist but her dream was to become a singer. She was discovered by South Korean entertainment company DR Music in 2002 while attending a Baby V.O.X. concert in China and, a few months later, she signed an 8-year contract with the company. However, in 2003, her mother asked the company to break her contract so she could return to her school. The agency agreed but soon after, Zhang signed a contract with SM Entertainment. She made her solo debut in 2006 with the single "Timeless" featuring TVXQ's Xiah and became the 1st foreigner to win the Newcomer Award at the Mnet Asian Music Awards. She actively promoted in both China and South Korea for several years before she returned to her country. In 2022, she signed with Xunfei Music and she recently began releasing songs in Korean after nearly a decade without doing so.
