Kang Hye Yeon, formerly known as Dami, is a South Korean singer, dancer and former member of EXID and BESTIE. She graduated from Parkmun Girls’ High School and made her debut (using the stage name Dami) in 2012 as EXID's leader, lead vocalist and lead rapper with their 1st digital single album, "Holla". However, soon after the group ended promotions for this album, AB Entertainment announced that she was leaving the group to focus on finishing her studies. Around one year later, she signed a contract with YNB Entertainment and she (now using her birth name), alongside 2 former EXID members (Uji and Haeryung) and a new member (Dahye), re-debuted as part of the girl group BESTIE with their 1st single "Pitapat". The group was mildly successful at the beginning but later the agency began postponing their new releases and the members began focusing on individual appearances. They performed for the last time in the military's year end concert in 2016 and while no official announcement was ever made, it is implied the group disbanded around mid-2017. That same year, she entered the survival competition "The Uni.T" but was eliminated in the final rounds and placed 27th overall. In 2018, she decided to switch genres and debuted as a trot singer with the single "Great". In 2021, she entered "Miss Trot Season 2" where she impressed the judges with her powerful vocals and for being able to break the stereotype of idol singers not being capable of transitioning to trot music. She managed to finish in 8th place and later released her first full album and continues to appear in music programs promoting her music.
