Recap Korean Drama "Big Mouth 2022" Episode 5 with Lee Jong Suk and Im Yoon Ah

Aug 13, 2022

A resounding scream echoes through the prison as the prisoners cheer Big Mouth, as in, Chang-ho’s name. Meanwhile, Do-ha rushes into the prison to save Chang-ho from sure death but is stopped by Yoon-gab from interacting. Chang-ho realises that something is very wrong, and by the looks of it, he knows exactly what.

In front of Ji-hoon, Chang-ho looks rather confident with his answers, which the latter reiterates that he has no reason to be. Do-ha comes into the room at that point, and Yoon-gab gives them both a piece of paper to write down the names of the clients. After they are both finished, Yoon-gab first reads Ji-hoon’s list and then Chang-ho’s.

And the names match!

Ji-hoon and everyone else are left absolutely shocked. Even Do-ha has a hard time believing what is going on in front of him. Ji-hoon has an expression of confusion and pleasure while the Three Musketeers look shocked at the development. Outside, the prisoners cheer with mirth (and also because a lot of people won that bet)!

Ji-hoon mentions that their fund manager Peter Hong accused Big Mouse of stealing the money, and exactly at that moment, the prosecutor calls Yoon-gab and asks to meet Chang-ho because Peter Hong was caught the other night; Chang-ho must prove himself to be innocent, just as he claims to be.

At the prosecutor’s, Park Hong talks about his past and how Big Mouse saved him when he was at his lowest. However, after riding high for some time, things came crashing down, and Big Mouse took everything from him. He mentions that he met Big Mouse only once, but he didn’t get to see his face or even hear his voice. Joong-rak shows him Chang-ho’s picture and mentions that he saw him with his eyes and that he simply needs to agree with whatever questions are asked to him – in that way, he will get out on probation.

Meanwhile, Ji-hoon asks Do-ha whether he is Big Mouse, and although the latter looks annoyed, there is a strong possibility that he might just be the titular criminal! Anyway, Do-ha mentions in this conversation that someone recommended Chang-ho to be the Three Musketeer’s lawyer and that he didn’t really choose him himself. This is further a confusing argument – isn’t Do-ha curious about this?

Anyway, as everyone makes their way to the prosecutor’s office, Joong-rak asks Chang-ho how he got to know the names of the clients – he mentions truthfully that someone gave him the piece of paper and who knows how it got to him. The prosecutor further asks Park Hong whether Chang-ho is the person he saw, and a clearly distressed Park Hong tries to stall the best he can as an alarm goes off. Park Hong gives himself an insulin shot which apparently is poison, because he falls to the floor dead within the next two minutes.

Outside, Ji-hoon mentions that he’s going to pay Mi-ho a visit, and although Do-ha reiterates that she doesn’t really know anything, the former thinks otherwise. At Gucheon Hospital, Mi-ho tries to talk to one of the patient’s guardians from before, but she runs off as she remembers that Jae-young had put an SD card in a necklace that she had made for him. Just as she leaves, Mi-ho gets a call from Ji-hoon, who asks her to meet him.

At the restaurant, Ji-hoon asks Mi-ho about Jae-young’s papers and asks her to sell them to him. She refuses to since she needs to use it to find whoever killed Jae-young – she needs to free her husband. He tells her that the husband whom she is attempting to save is actually Big Mouse and that he told them the names of the clients whom only Big Mouse would’ve known.

Mi-ho isn’t really bothered by this nonsense, and as she starts to leave, Ji-hoon threatens her saying that if she has read the document, then she should know that holding on to it is going to prove dangerous for her. Meanwhile, Do-ha listens in on the entire conversation from another room.

Just as Mi-ho leaves the room, she calls Do-ha to tell him that the list he gave Chang-ho has worked wonders. But a concerned Do-ha stops himself from telling her anything although, for a second, it seemed like he was going to spill the beans. On the other hand, Soon-tae and Gi-gwang figure out that Jae-young was having an affair.

Back at the prison, people get paid their dues from the bet while Chae-bong begrudgingly hands over 300 million won to Chang-ho, who gives some money to Yoon-gab to buy VIP treatment from him. Plus, he throws a party for the entire penitentiary. The way the prisoners chant his name is so great to watch – a rare win after a long time. He even gets approval from Chun-sik!

Anyway, Chang-ho threatens the Three Musketeers to accept their fault in the trial so that things can go over smoothly. However, when they refuse, Chang-ho tells them that, sadly, they will pass away under mysterious circumstances if they don’t do as he says. He then asks Du-geun whether the wine he is drinking tastes funny in any way, effectively making him choke on it out of fear. Chun-sik, witnessing this entire thing going down, is amused by how well Chang-ho is playing his cards.

Chang-ho, however, realises that he has to play a bit hard ball and threatens the three men in different ways suited to the particular person. The fear in their eyes is absolutely amazing to watch; plus, Chang-ho looks so confident! Anyway, Do-ha meets Chang-ho and asks him a bunch of questions, primarily accusing him of dragging him through the mud. He further asks him how he could do this to Mi-ho.

This strikes a chord with Chang-ho, who asks the mayor not to bring his wife into this and neither to tell her anything. Plus, this is the time when he chooses whether he will help him or not. Clearly, Do-ha has created a monster whom he cannot let go of anymore. Meanwhile, on the night shift, Mi-ho spies on Park Mi-young drawing in blood from a patient and follows her outside. Mi-young takes the blood to the medical innovation centre while Mi-ho follows suit and sees her making her way to the supply room.

She looks around in the supply room and is caught by Joo-hee, who admonishes her for doing unnecessary work and threatens her never to do anything other than what she is paid to do. Plus, the security guard also mentions that he didn’t see anyone other than Mi-ho coming into the room. Mi-ho is obviously confused and eventually leaves, and it turns out that there is a secret door in the room that Mi-ho didn’t catch and that both the guard and Joo-hee know about.

Interestingly, it seems like he is aware of something going on behind those doors since when Joo-hee mentions not to go inside, he tells her that the previous director had told him the same thing.

At the prison, the Three Musketeers beg Ji-hoon to let them get out of the prison in some way since they are afraid of staying there. Outside the prison, Chang-ho asks Ji-hoon why he talked to Mi-ho and that it wasn’t fair to go after family. Ji-hoon tries to act all high and mighty, mentioning that everything is fair in war. However, when Ji-hoon’s wife calls him asking why he sent her chrysanthemums, he is taken aback – Chang-ho has done this as a reminder.

He asks Ji-hoon whether he really wants to play without rules and that if he messes with Mi-ho one more time, he’s going to send him a gift that he will definitely not like. After Chang-ho leaves, Ji-hoon asks Yoon-gab to make Chun-sik kill Chang-ho at whatever cost. But a reminder of the 100 billion won is enough to change his tune.

Chang-ho proposes to invest in Chun-sik, who, at first, doesn’t take him seriously. But when the former asks him whether he wants to bet on who is getting out of the prison first, Chun-sik has to take him seriously.

In the next scene, Chun-sik’s men get Jae-ho to the same room where they hung Chang-ho in the first episode. He asks what he should do with him since he had hung him from the same place. Jae-ho starts to sob to spare him, but Chang-ho isn’t in the mood. Chang-ho assures him that he has seen the dashcam video – he didn’t murder anyone, he was just an accessory. Thus, he should confess and end things once and for all.

When Jae-ho doesn’t answer, Chang-ho hangs him from the noose, just straight up lets him hang and watches him pass out, much to Jerry’s shock. Don’t worry, he’s not dead, and Jae-ho does promise to confess. But Jerry looks a little concerned at how things just went down!

Meanwhile, Do-ha asks Mi-ho to meet him that night and he tells her all of his concerns about her husband. He tells her a sob story about his father and mentions that she is being fooled by Chang-ho and that everyone who went against him died mysteriously. Plus, he told him not to tell her about him being Big Mouse. Mi-ho looks a bit concerned at this point and decides to leave.

His words have clearly affected her, but as she goes home, Gi-gwang calls and tells her that Chang-ho paid off his 100 million won debt in cash mysteriously. Mi-ho, now more concerned than ever, weeps as she goes home.

Big Mouth Episode 5 Review

Still From Big Mouth Episode 5

Guys, what a great episode! Every episode, I am left to wonder who Big Mouse can be, and, in every episode, I come back empty-handed. And, I guess that’s what is keeping me absolutely glued to the screen.

To be honest, I think Big Mouth is great even without the biggest question plaguing our minds. The way the characters are and how the story goes back and forth from one person to another as well as the emotional and humane moments that keep you glued to the screen – everything about the show is going phenomenal right now.

We get to know quite a bit about Chang-ho’s life in prison and the way he has changed inside. The story itself hasn’t progressed in this episode, but by no means is it boring or stalled in any way. We are enamoured by Chang-ho’s win in prison, and the way he isn’t being kicked around is great not only for him but also for us as the audience. It’s a win that we want him to have, but it also makes me scared about where we are going to see this character in the upcoming episodes. Is the win getting to his head?

I think Mi-ho is great, but I am shocked at how quickly she believed the man who got her husband into this mess in the first place. It’s actually quite shocking that she’d simply just trust Do-ha like that without talking to Chang-ho first, but then again, my husband isn’t being touted as a criminal mastermind, so what do I know?

Now, coming to Do-ha – man, I don’t get him. I don’t get whether he’s a good guy or a bad guy or a little bit of both. At this point, I think he’s a comfortable grey. But I think his character is the best out of everyone only because I have no idea who he is!

Regardless, Big Mouth is going great, and I only hope that it gets better from here.
