Adamas episode 5 starts with the household in a frenzy as Woo-sin passes out in Chairman Kwon Jae-kyu’s room. The fire extinguisher is turned off, but to Tae-sung and Hye-soo’s horror, he still lays there unconscious. As everyone scrambles to get a doctor to get him awake, someone sneakily picks up Woo-sin’s recorder.
In the meantime, a masked man quietly gets into an apartment building with the clear intention of murdering whoever is in the bathroom. However, it seems like Ms Lee was ready for the attack and immediately knocks him down with a taser. Meanwhile, Su-hyeon stands under the bridge for the mystery person who sent him the text.
Just as he’s about to leave, Seo-hee approaches him and lets him know that she’s the one who sent him the text. In the meantime, we find out that Ms Lee was expecting everything that happened, and she tells Hyuk-pil that the person doesn’t have fingerprints and it’d be difficult to identify him.

Curiously, he asks her what will happen to Su-hyeon and she assures him that Seo-hee will take care of him. Under the bridge, she tells Su-hyeon that this was all a test to see whether anyone was following him and that, like him, she too was bait at one point. Everything that she told him up to this point has been deliberately planned, and it turned out the way she wanted to. Thanks to him, she caught the person who was following her.
When he demands she tell him what is going on and who she is, she asks him to come with her.
Meanwhile, Woo-sin has woken up, albeit still in bed. Tae-sung comes in and gets right to the point – the location of the Adamas. Woo-sin narrates why the chairman didn’t keep the Adamas at any other location and mentions that they should steal it as soon as possible, much to Tae-sung’s dismal. In the meantime, Dong-rim stands outside the house, wondering what he should do with Woo-sin’s recorder.
Furthermore, in a rather infuriating one-sided conversation, we see Mrs Kwon taunt Ms Yoon, saying that she knows that she was the one who recommended Woo-sin. She wonders whether it’s because he looks like Min-jo, and she thinks that Hye-soo will have an affair with him. Ms Yoon doesn’t say anything, but when she goes out of the door, there’s a very creepy look on her face.

Later, a very high Hyun-jo hallucinates his reflection taunting him in the mirror about his incompetency and whether he will let Su-hyeon ruin everything for him. In the end, he asks him to get rid of the problem once and for all. Hyun-jo immediately calls someone and asks them to do him a favour. While all of this is going on, Su-hyeon is taken to Hyuk-pil’s safe house with a bag over his head.
That night, Dong-rim hands the recorder over to Woo-sin and shares the predicament he is in. He asks him to help get him out of the house in order to save his father. Later on, Hye-soo picks a dress that she sends to Ms Yoon with a rather flirty message. There seems to be something going on between the two… or is it between two completely different people, and we are simply getting incorrect hints?
Woo-sin mentions that he will be stealing the Adamas that night, and he’s sure that it’s in the chairman’s office because the chairman has left the entire middle of the room empty only so that he can appreciate its beauty. Thus, they need to lower it from the ceiling using the button on his desk. It’s impressive how Woo-sin has taken the time to break everything down, even the passcode that might be guarding the switch!

At the safe house, Su-hyeon is absolutely shocked to learn that Woo-sin is in cahoots with everyone to steal the Adamas. Su-hyeon refuses to believe him at first, even laughing at the idea of someone committing murder with the Adamas. However, when Hyuk-pil mentions that Woo-sin has recorded Hye-soo’s confession, he has no other option but to rethink whether he wants to be in on the thing or not. In the end, Su-hyeon barges out of the place, mentioning that he won’t be a part of this. Unfortunately, they hit him over the head when he starts to fuss too much, rendering him unconscious.
When he comes to, Hyuk-pil and Tae-sung help the brothers to talk to each other where Su-hyeon constantly screams at Woo-sin for doing something so dangerous while the latter tries to calm him down. In the end, Woo-sin tells him that he’s doing this no matter what, while Hyuk-pil asks Tae-sung to halt the Adamas plan because they might have something else. In another room in the safe house, Ms Lee is torturing the masked killer and asking him about the man Seo-hee saw when she was young.
Elsewhere, when Team A Leader Lee gets to know that his little brother has disappeared while trying to get rid of Seo-hee, he springs into action. And by the looks of it, he isn’t too happy. At the safe house, Seo-hee and Su-hyeon have a heart-to-heart about the entire ordeal. He mentions that Woo-sin, the level-headed of the two of them, putting everything on the line and going to Haesong feels a bit off and Seo-hee mentions that she finds it odder that Chang-woo, in spite of knowing he didn’t do anything, insisted thoroughly that he was the killer.
But why?
Anyway, after the interrogation doesn’t give any result, Su-hyeon asks to do the interrogation to get something out of him. Su-cheol plays the good cop and, through a series of questions, gets some responses. Although he doesn’t spill all of his secrets, it’s something. Outside the room, however, everyone is quite sad about the outcome – they realise that torturing him is useless; he isn’t going to break.

At Haesong, Woo-sin wonders whether the possibility that Jae-kyu had an accomplice who committed the murder could be a possibility. However, the thought takes a backseat when Dong-rim tells him that he took Hye-soo’s help to move his father to a different hospital. Unfortunately, Woo-sin realises that he has made a grave mistake. Meanwhile, Hye-soo finds Ms Yoon wearing the dress that she chose earlier and tells him how “he” had chosen it for her.
Ms Yoon looks a mixture of sad and tortured, and after she leaves, Hye-soo calls her a hopeless romantic. So, does that mean that Ms Yoon was in love with Hyun-jo, and when Min-jo died, they had the former marry Hye-soo? Woo-sin catches her on her way out and asks her to let Dong-rim’s father go. Unfortunately, Dong-rim gets there and learns too late that, contrary to his belief, Hye-soo and Woo-sin aren’t working together.
After Hye-soo and the chairman leave, Woo-sin and Tae-sung talk about the button underneath Jae-kyu’s desk – Tae-sung mentions that it’s supposed to be an emergency button, but no one has ever used it. Thus, it either be that there never was an emergency or that it’s not for an emergency. The chances are 50-50, and although Tae-sung asks him not to go through with his plan so soon, Woo-sin has his heart set – he’s doing this that night.

At the dinner, it’s just so awkward – there’s clearly something going on between Hyun-jo and Ms Yoon, and Hye-soo despises her husband. The talk of Hyun-jo taking his father’s place makes her absolutely annoyed, while Ms Yoon feels delighted. At Haesong, Woo-sin takes a minute to think about the consequences of pushing that button with a 50-50 chance, while Tae-sung meets his colleague outside the house and tells him to prepare himself to arrest Woo-sin if it comes to that.
At the safe house, Su-hyeon decides to take the fully crazy route and inject the guy with a muscle relaxant. He looks almost maniacal doing this, and as Manager Lee starts to feel the effects of the relaxant, Woo-sin finds the Adamas slowly coming down from the ceiling. Or, well, the box at least. The Adamas is gone – Ms Kwon having taken it with her to keep it safe. Woo-sin realises that Jae-kyu is trying to get rid of the evidence.

I think Adamas is going to take some time to really get into the nitty-gritties of the story. As of episode 5, I think it’s a bit slow. Apart from the murder mystery, which, I think, we have almost seen everything of; I am interested in the family dynamics within Haesong. There’s something fishy going on here that we aren’t privy to yet, and that’s what is keeping me going.
