Pyramid Game (2024) K Drama 2024 Episode 9

Episode 9 of Pyramid Game starts with Soo-ji at the festival. She sends a text to Ye-rim, asking her to meet by the swimming pool. Woo-ri shows up at the festival and goes looking for Ye-rim. Ye-rim gets a congratulatory text from Eun-jeong which makes her break down to hide from the rest. By the time Soo-ji makes it to the pool, she sees Ye-rim passed out there. Ye-rim is taken to the hospital while an enraged Soo-ji goes back to Class 5.

In class, Do-ah asks Ha-rin to address the class before they start the 16th Pyramid Game. Ha-rin tells the class that they are going to pick out one student as the permanent Rank F student for the entire term until they graduate. She asks if anyone is willing to be a Rank F student for the next academic year when Soo-ji barges into the room and pushes her up the chalkboard.

She asks Ha-rin if she is satisfied with what she did to Woo-ri – who was locked up in her room because of the game. Soo-ji adds that the game made Ja-eun try to end her life and ruined Eun-jeong’s swimming career as well. She asks if Ye-rim too was one of Ha-rin’s targets who was taken to the hospital because of her sick games. Soo-ji asks the class if everyone knew Ha-rin was behind the Pyramid Game.

Ha-rin accepts the fact that she created the game and asks Soo-ji to go back to her seat and follow her orders. Ha-rin tells the class that she is going to continue the game and find a permanent Rank F student. Soo-ji asks Ha-rin how she could be trusted because Da-yeon wasn’t punished for her actions and was in class with them. Soo-ji states that the game was hers as well as she was a student in the class.

Eun-byeol pledges allegiance to Ha-rin and convinces more students to pledge their allegiance to Ha-rin. Ha-rin looks at Ja-eun, expecting her to raise her hand in agreement as well but Soo-ji interrupts them to put an end to it. Soo-ji tells Ha-rin that she too will have to accept the result of the game, no matter how it ends as she was adamant about putting an end to the Pyramid Game.

Soo-ji addresses the class one last time and asks the students to reflect on the fact that they are probably going to vote for the people they call their friends. She reminds the class of all the girls who were seriously damaged because of the game and asks if the students wish to play a game so dangerous.

Jae-hyeong realises that Soo-ji is attempting to be as evil as Ha-rin and as kind as Ja-eun at the same time as she appeals to the class to make the right decision. Soo-ji asked the students to delete the application from their phones if they did not want to play the game. Ha-rin agrees with Soo-ji but keeps looking at Ja-eun. The class is silent and Soo-ji looks at Ja-eun hopefully.

A flashback shows Ja-eun overhearing Ha-rin’s conversation with Eun-byeol. Ha-rin mentions that she was going to make Soo-ji a Rank F student which prompts Ja-eun to sacrifice herself for her friend. Just as Jae-hyeong is about to delete the app from her phone, Ja-eun announces that she has deleted the application in support of Soo-ji. A flashback shows Ja-eun overhearing a conversation between Ha-rin and Eun-byeol.

Ha-rin tells Eun-byeol that she wants to make Soo-ji a Rank F student to cause a rift between Ja-eun and Soo-ji which will ultimately end their friendship. In class, Ha-rin is shocked by Ja-eun’s decision while Soo-ji is relieved. One by one, more students start deleting the app from their phones starting with Jae-hyeong, Ji-ae and the other friends Soo-ji had made organically.

Soo-ji needs three more votes to form a majority. Surprisingly two more students delete the app and to Ha-rin’s shock, Da-yeon gets up and deletes the app in Soo-ji’s support. Soo-ji states that Da-yeon’s vote won’t be counted as she is not a student in their class anymore. She asks Da-yeon to get lost which infuriates her. She rushes to attack Soo-ji but Ja-eun interrupts her.

Da-yeon loses her mind and starts beating Ja-eun up. However, the voice recording of the assault is immediately leaked online. The teachers in the staff room hear the screaming from Class 5 on the internet and are shocked. Meanwhile, Jae-un gets up and pins Da-yeon down, causing her to yell. Do-ah witnesses the chaos and deletes the app from her phone which leaves the entire class including Ha-rin shocked.

A flashback shows Soo-ji convincing Do-ah to help get rid of the game once and for all. Do-ah places the camera in the class and live streams the entire events from the day on the internet for the public to watch. In class, Soo-ji announces that since 12 out of 22 existing students deleted the apps from their phones, the game has officially ended.

Another flashback shows Soo-ji asking Seung-hwa to leak the audio recording before the video recording as Ha-rin’s family will surely try to get rid of any evidence against her. She also tells Seung-hwa that the teachers were probably responsible for tampering with the grades. In the present day, Seung-hwa enters the staff room and looks through Mr Lim’s computer as the teachers rush to Class 5 to stop the live streaming.

Principal Im finds the camera and stops the live stream. However, the video has reached a large number of people already. Soo-ji and Ja-eun are at the school rooftop and the former thanks Ja-eun for her support in the game. Jae-hyeong and Ji-ae show up there too and ask for Ye-rim. Soo-ji reveals that Ye-rim was not attempting to end her life but adds that she bluffed about it to make an impact on the classroom.

A flashback shows Ye-rim being followed by someone dressed in a teddy bear mascot’s costume at the swimming pool. Just as the mascot is about to attack Ye-rim, Woo-ri shows up out of nowhere and knocks the person out. Woo-ri chases after the woman who turns out to be Ye-rim’s stalker. The girls go to meet Ye-rim in the hospital and find Eun-jeong there.

Ye-rim is amused to hear that Soo-ji has used her encounter with the stalker to their advantage. She also jokes that her good looks had charmed many women while looking at Eun-jeong. The girls all decide to tell their parents the truth about the bullying in their school. On their way out, Eun-jeong thanks Soo-ji for putting an end to the game.

Soo-ji meets Seung-hwa and learns that he had stolen the data from Mr Lim’s computer when the staff room was empty. Soo-ji and Seung-hwa go through the files on Mr Lim’s computer while Miss Yoon shows up at the police station. Miss Yoon reports the School Bullying at Baekyeon High School. Soo-ji tells Seung-hwa that Woo-ri was at their school and he rushes to see if his sister is doing okay.

Seung-hwa finds Woo-ri and realises that she must’ve left her room after realising that Ye-rim’s stalker was going to attack her at the festival. Seung-hwa compliments Woo-ri for her bravery.

Meanwhile, Ha-rin’s parents are shocked to hear the news of the video. Da-yeon’s father pulls out a hockey stick to beat her up. Soo-ji’s father watches the video being covered on the news from the base camp while Ja-eun’s mother is shattered to see Ja-eun being beaten up in the video.

The news reaches Cho-soon and she meets her granddaughter – Ha-rin. She calls Ha-rin a sloppy fool for making such a mistake. That night, Soo-ji’s father asks Soo-ji why she never told him anything about the bullying. Soo-ji tells him that she did not trust Lieutenant Sung to make the right choice because she had overheard him talking to his colleagues about a bullying incident at the military base camp.

Soo-ji states that Lieutenant Sung was a bystander and that she does not trust him. Lieutenant Sung is guilty of his actions after Soo-ji’s comment. On the contrary, Ja-eun’s mother shows up at their house and comforts her daughter. The next day, Ja-eun’s mother asks her if she wants to transfer schools. Ja-eun states that she has friends in the school and does not fear Ha-rin. She finds the lighter Ha-rin had left behind and picks it up.

On her way out, Ja-eun runs into Ha-rin. Ha-rin asks Ja-eun if she does not remember how she has wronged her in the past. Ja-eun hands over the lighter to Ha-rin and leaves. Ja-eun, Soo-ji, Jae-hyeong and Ji-ae are in class when they notice that most of the students were absent from Class 5. The school violence committee investigates Woo-yi, Do-ah and Seol-ha while Eun-byeol tries to force her mother to get her admitted to a training institute.

Eun-byeol mocks her mother for not being wealthy and questions her parents for bringing her into the world if she is destined to live an average life. Meanwhile, the students of Class 5 are moved to different classes. Soo-ji and Jae-hyeong end up in the same class while Ye-rim and Ja-eun end up in another. Ja-eun asks Ji-ae if she will be okay as she is the only one of them who is in a different class.

Ji-ae stated that she was okay and asked to have lunch together with their group. At lunch, Soo-ji notices how eating with the rest of the school was a jarring experience for her. After lunch, Soo-ji runs into Do-ah who tells her that Ha-rin is moving abroad. At the same time, Cho-soon asks Mr Baek to make sure Ha-rin isn’t embroiled in the school violence investigation.

Ha-rin goes on to hug Cho-soon and whispers something in her ear. Meanwhile, Yi-hwa tells Dr Seo that she would not do anything to save Do-ah and Ha-rin. She claims that she prioritised the Baekyeon Group over the girls. Yi-hwa added that she was going to take action on the matter as she did not want their business to be affected by the controversy.

At a press conference, Yi-hwa stated that the school had no idea about the violence and revealed that action was being taken against the school bullies. After school that day, Ji-ae, Jae-hyeong and three other girls visit Ye-rim and Eun-jeong at the hospital. Ji-ae states that Soo-ji and Ja-eun are MIA and wonders if the two are getting into any more trouble.

Meanwhile, Soo-ji joins Ja-eun on a trip to the elementary school that Ja-eun and Ha-rin attended when they were younger. The episode then cuts out to Ha-rin waiting for Ja-eun at the Baekyeon High School. Ha-rin reveals to Soo-ji that she was So-won, a victim of school bullying. Ja-eun gets down to her knees and apologises when the school suddenly catches on fire.

The episode ends with Ha-rin passing out in the middle of the school foyer while Ja-eun and Soo-ji try to make sense of what had happened.

The Episode Review

This episode shows Soo-ji coming off as an opportunistic person because why would she not interrupt and save her friend when she could see the mascot trying to attack Ye-rim? While most of this episode was interesting, there are so many questions about the way things ended here. I am sure the makers want to keep viewers hooked till the very end but most of this episode felt like a filler.

I love that Ye-rim and Eun-jeong have finally gotten a sort of happy ending. Knowing full well that Romance is not the genre of this show, I hope Seung-hwa and Soo-ji also end up together somehow. From the looks of it, the final episode is going to change a lot of things and shake up the parents who have been trying to handle the video leak on their terms.
