Episode 11 of My Happy Ending starts with Ah-rin spending some time fishing with Chang-suk. She talks to her grandfather about how she was missing her parents. Meanwhile, a man dressed in black takes photos of Ah-rin in secret. At Dereve, Yoon-jin is the new CEO and greets the employees in Jae-won’s place.
Mr Kwon meets Yoon-jin and Mr Park In-seok, asking them to run Dereve with their discernment. In private, he tells Yoon-jin to find the recording of their conversation from the night of Seung-kyu’s death as that could cause them serious harm. Meanwhile, Jae-won is at the psychiatric hospital, getting the help she needs for her bipolar disorder.
Dr Kim talks to Jae-won, asking her if she is feeling any inclinations of self-harming. She also asks her about the night she fell into the Han River. Jae-won tells Dr Kim that she was not alone that night but claims that she did not remember who pushed her into the river.
Dr Kim tries to understand what was happening with Jae-won over the past year which leads them to talk about her stalker as well as her relationship with Su-kyung.
Jae-won believes that Su-kyung is her friend and was the person who gave her prescription medication. After the conversation, Jae-won struggles in her sleep, dreaming about the night she was pushed into Han River.
Dr Kim tells Jae-won that her mind was making her relive the same traumatic experience again and again. She tells Jae-won that her mind could be trying to distract her from something in the past by reminding her of the traumatic incident.
That night, Jae-won avoids thinking about the night and suddenly remembers the incident from her high school when she tried to slit her wrist to end her life.
Jae-won recalls seeing her younger self with blood flowing down her wrist. She realises that she had jumped into the Han River of her own will and had hallucinated the fact that someone had pushed her into the river.
Jae-won is disgusted with herself and tries talking about her condition during a group meeting with other patients at the hospital.
On the other hand, Chang-suk is also being followed by the man dressed in black as he goes to the local marker. That night, Tae-joo meets Yoon-jin and she claims that Jae-won’s mother – Jung Mi-hyang was an old friend of Tae-joo as they were both gambling buddies.
Yoon-jin wonders what Tae-joo is after but the latter tells her that she was not ready to know the truth. The next norming Tae-oh shows up at Chang-suk’s house with his sister – Rachel. Rachel and Ah-rin get along as per their plan and Chang-suk tells Tae-oh that he has decided to send Ah-rin abroad with Rachel till the issue with Jae-won is sorted.
Tae-oh states that his adoptive parents would take good care of Ah-rin as well. At the psychiatric hospital, Jae-won shares with the group how she is feeling much better. Tae-oh shows up there to meet her and the two chat about Ah-rin for a bit.
Jae-won tells Tae-oh that she does not know what Yoon-jin is up to. At the same time, Yoon-jin buys toys, intending to give them to Ah-rin, who she claims is her daughter.
That night, Rachel convinces Ah-rin to go to the USA with her. Meanwhile, Jae-won finds news articles and other documents hidden inside the book Tae-oh had left behind. Jae-won reads through the notes while trying to figure out what Yoon-jin was up to. The next day, Yoon-jin shows up to meet Ah-rin but the little girl does not recognise her.
Yoon-jin takes Ah-rin outside the house for a walk which scares Chang-suk. She offers to give Ah-rin her mobile number, asking the little girl to get in touch. Just then, Chang-suk shows up and sends Ah-rin away. He asks Yoon-jin to stop trying to get in touch with Ah-rin and asks her to leave the kid alone.
Chang-suk asks Tae-oh to make arrangements to have Ah-rin sent to the States as soon as possible.
Tae-joo learns from Detective Lee that Detective Oh Soo-jin is now in charge of Soon-young’s murder case. Tae-joo tells Yoon-jin all about the case being transferred and warns her about Detective Oh being a menace when it comes to solving cases.
Just then, Tae-joo’s informant sends him a photo of Ah-rin being sent abroad. He wonders how Yoon-jin premeditated Chang-suk and Tae-oh’s decision long ago.
Tae-oh calls Jae-won in the hospital and has her talk to Ah-rin one last time before she takes her flight. After seeing Ah-rin leave, Jae-won focuses on getting better for her daughter’s sake. Reporter Choi uses Jae-won’s situation to his advantage and tries to make news of it. Tae-oh visits Jae-won again and tells her Mr Kwon is up to something huge.
He also asks Secretary Kim to keep an eye on Seung-kyu who was showing some sign of improvement before he stopped moving his finger while being in a coma in the hospital.
At dinner, Mr Kwon asks Yoon-jin to stop hanging out with Tae-joo as it could cause further problems for them. He reminds her about the audio recording of their conversation about Seung-kyu and asks her to get it before things escalate.
The next day, Yoon-jin meets Tae-oh and thanks him for staying with Dereve despite their problems. Meanwhile, Detective Oh shows up at the psychiatric hospital to have a chat with Jae-won.
During the chat, Detective Oh tries to determine how Soon-young died and tells him about his visit to Kim Sang-beom before his death.
Jae-won thinks about all the things that have happened in her life over the past year and suddenly remembers being sexually assaulted on the night of Dereve’s launch. She also recalls how Yoon-jin had tried to break her marriage because she blamed Jae-won for what was happening in her life. Jae-won is discharged from the hospital and meets Tae-oh.
Tae-oh asks what he should call her now as she is no longer his boss. Jae-won tells Tae-oh that a lot has changed in the last few months of her absence as the two finally go back to her house.
Meanwhile, reporters interviewing Yoon-jin compare her to Jae-won. At Jae-won’s house, Tae-oh finds Soon-young’s notes in his study room.
Jae-won tells Tae-oh that she is going to make the person who killed her husband suffer and asks for his help with it. Jae-won ignores her hallucinations of Su-kyung and tries to get better.
The next day, Jae-won meets Kim Mi-so, another one of Sang-beom’s victims who is adamant about destroying him. She hands over some evidence to prove Sang-beom’s involvement in the manipulation of some clinical tests.
Sang-beom is called in for investigation and Mr Kwon learns all about it. He asks Sang-beom to hand off his shares in Dereve to avoid the brand from being embroiled in the controversy. However, he sends Yoon-jae after Sang-beom. Jae-won watches Yoon-jae trying to run a heavily drunk Sang-beom over with his car.
The next day, Jae-won shows up at a showing of Yoon-jin’s art where Mr Kwon and Yoon-jin are both present. Instead of creating a scene, she hugs Yoon-jin. The episode ends with Jae-won threatening Yoon-jin about what she had planned for her.
A lot that is happening in the show at the moment seems pointless. While the crux of this episode was Ah-rin’s move to the United States and the appearance of Sang-beom’s victim, I am not sure what happened aside from that. We see Mr Kwon trying to strike a deal with the Assemblyman but there is no information about what he is up to.
There is also the uncertainty around Soon-young’s murder investigation. Moreover, everything about the clinical trials and Sang-beom’s involvement in those leading up to him signing off his shares in Dereve are all extremely confusing. I hope the episodes that follow offer some clarity to the viewers as the show is on its final few episodes now.
