Episode 5 of Knight Flower begins with Merchant Jang telling Su-ho that Yeo-hwa is already at Pil’s. He follows her into the warehouse. They are about to bicker but on seeing the kids, they use Jang’s wagon to escape. However, Su-ho wants to take the kids as witnesses. Yeo-hwa asks if he can guarantee their safety and tells him to arrest her if she is getting in the way. He doesn’t and she is flustered.
A furious Pil orders everyone involved to be killed including Su-ho. Yoon-hak shows up at Su-ho’s because he is worried but pretends not to be. Su-ho says he is not sad about Yoon-hak pretending to be cold because he saved him. Yoon-hak wonders why he is getting nostalgic and Su-ho says it is because of the Masked Lady. He gets drunk and starts ranting about her, wanting to confirm her identity and while confused, Yoon-hak is amused.
While heading home, Yeo-hwa sees Lady Baek and Yeom’s servant, Yong-deok hugging. She is scandalised and also blushes as her mind wanders to Su-ho.
The next morning is in chaos. A hungover Su-ho regrets last night as he apparently ranted to Hwang and Bi-chan too about the Masked Lady. Minister Yeom is killed and Hwang orders Su-ho to quickly catch the killer before the Police Bureau find him.
Meanwhile, Yeon-sun keeps getting angrier and angrier after hearing of Yeo-hwa’s rescue mission. They are interrupted as Lady Yoo calls Yeo-hwa to give Lady Oh their condolences. While the Police Bureau case the crime scene, Su-ho does his own investigation as he notices purple spots in Yeom’s mouth and a sickly sweet smell.
Outside, Hwang gets terrified as the wives arrive and fight to give the best condolence. At that moment, the guards capture Yong-deok and claim he is the killer as he has a ring that is Yeom’s. He says it is his but refuses to give an alibi, only that he is innocent. Yeo-hwa wants to say something but stops on seeing Lady Yoo glare at her. In the commotion, the Personnel Minister’s wife looks angry while Su-ho finds Yeo-hwa odd. In the palace, Seok wants every detail about the death.
While heading out, Yoon-hak sees Yeon-sun drinking. She invites him and starts ranting about Yeo-hwa and he gets deja vu. She says she cannot leave till Yeo-hwa is happy. Yoon-hak confesses that he too has two such people (the King and Su-ho). She slips and he helps her. They lock eyes and instantly get flustered.
At Yeom’s, Hwang Yi-kyung makes an appearance to get a glimpse of Su-ho. Bi-chan is told not to let her in and she throws the snacks at him. They start bickering and Su-ho runs off quietly. Meanwhile, Yeo-hwa tells Yeon-sun about Baek and both are scandalised. Elsewhere, the Personnel Minister’s wife knows about Baek’s affair because the ring is theirs and is furious. She locks her in and tells her to kill herself or she will kill her.
At the palace, the King and Yoon-hak wonder why Seok is so interested in Yeom’s murder. Back to their 15-year-old investigation, they wonder why Soong-ho had visited the palace on his day off. While Su-ho focuses on Yeom’s case, he keeps wondering what Yeo-hwa was about to say.
At home, Yoo keeps praising Baek and how Yeo-hwa should be better than her. This plants an idea in Yeo-hwa’s mind. While interrogating, the locals tell Su-ho that they saw Yong-deok with a widow that night. He, of course, thinks it is Yeo-hwa.
Meanwhile, she visits the Personnel Minister’s house to learn how to be the perfect widow from Baek. The wife refuses her but hints that Baek will soon become the model of widows. While she is distracted, Yeon-sun snoops around and finds Baek locked and guarded.
At the prison, Yong-deok refuses to reveal the truth. Bi-chan is impressed with his sacrifice while Su-ho finds it irrational. As for the autopsy report, Seok is shocked to learn that there were purple spots in Yeom’s mouth. A flashback shows Yeom choking on something, falling and hitting his head. Lady Oh watches him as he dies.
On the street, Su-ho spots Yeo-hwa and Yeon-sun scheming. Bi-chan wonders if Su-ho is jealous about something but he just scoffs and runs off. Seok visits the Yeoms and after paying his condolence, takes Lady Oh aside. He suggests that she takes care of everything in her household including the petals. It cuts to a flower tree whose petals were in the painting’s crossbar.
That night, Yeo-hwa and Jang’s man, Hwal-yoo rescue Baek before she can kill herself. But she doesn’t know what to do alone and starts crying. While Su-ho goes over the case files, Bi-chan wonders if the sweet smell is of flowers. Su-ho brings out the crossbar petals and they melt as Bi-chan accidentally drops water on one. It emits the same smell from Yeom’s mouth.
As for Seok, he looks at the same flower tree in his house. A flashback takes us to the old king’s death. He had purple spots and a sweet smell. The Crown Prince had wanted to look into it but his mother had scolded him.
At present, Seok sees light at the shrine and goes to visit his daughter-in-law. But inside, it is Yeon-sun pretending to be Yeo-hwa while the real Yeo-wha is outside. She sees him and sneaks in. She is getting changed when he asks to enter. Both Yeon-sun and Yeo-wha look shocked.
The Knight Flower Episode 5 Epilogue has Lady Yoo saying that Yeo-wha should think and act just like Baek. It cuts to Baek looking at Yong-deok’s abs and hugging him and Yeohwa looks scandalised.
The Knight Flower Episode 5 continues to mesh mystery and comedy in a light-hearted fashion that will have viewers entertained. This K-drama has found the perfect balance and if they continue the same way, it is bound to be the perfect show. The dialogues are hilarious, the parallels, hints and misunderstandings are witty and subtle, and the actors have the comic expressions on point.
This chapter also sheds some more light on how the 15-year-old mystery, the current mystery, Su-ho, Pil, Seok and Yeo-hwa may all be involved. And it is not too complicated that viewers may have to wrack their brains. The secondary characters are also pretty interesting and have their independent plots which are bound to pay off such as Yeon-sun and Yoon-hak, and Bi-chan and Hwang’s daughter. It is fun to watch and predict what may happen next
