Ji Chang Wook has shared his thoughts on his upcoming drama “Gangnam B-Side”!
“Gangnam B-Side” is a crime drama about a detective, a prosecutor, and a mysterious broker, each following different leads to find Jae Hee, the missing ace of a club. Directed and written by Park Nu Ri, known for the film “Money,” the series stars Jo Woo Jin, Ji Chang Wook, Ha Yun Kyung, and BIBI.
Ji Chang Wook plays Yoon Gil Ho, a mysterious broker and lawless figure in Gangnam. His presence commands attention from the moment he appears on screen.
Yoon Gil Ho has survived alone in the dark back alleys of a bustling city, exuding a chilling tension with his blank expression and intense gaze. Ji Chang Wook enhances the character with a striking look that includes long hair, a fur jacket, and flashy accessories. The scars on his face are especially noticeable, adding depth to his role.
“I spent a lot of time on makeup for my wounds during each shoot,” Ji Chang Wook said. He added, “While hairstyle, clothing, earrings, and tattoos were important, the most crucial aspect for me was the scars on my face.”
He also mentioned, “Yoon Gil Ho has rarely had a clean face,” noting that the scars are “the biggest device that could concisely express what kind of life the character has lived.” This adds to the intrigue about Yoon Gil Ho’s hidden background and the daily challenges he faces.
Ji Chang Wook described Yoon Gil Ho as “someone with a clear boundary between his people and those who are not.” He emphasized the importance of showcasing the character’s relationships with others.
“This character expresses himself more through his gaze and actions than through dialogue, so I focused on my movements in every scene,” he added, calling it “another new challenge.”
Jo Woo Jin, who collaborated with Ji Chang Wook again after their last project, praised him, saying, “He appeared to me upgraded from before. I felt he has become broader and deeper.” He added, “Viewers will see an expanded version of Ji Chang Wook’s charm,” raising excitement for the project.
“Gangnam B-Side” is set to premiere on November 6 via Disney+.
