Park Eun Bin and Rowoon’s romance in “The King’s Affection” is capturing viewers’ hearts!
Based on the manhwa (Korean comic) of the same name, the KBS 2TV drama tells the story of a pair of royal twins, one male and one female. Although the sister is initially abandoned for being female, she later disguises herself as a man to become the crown prince when her brother dies. Park Eun Bin stars as Lee Hwi, the crown prince with a shocking secret, while SF9’s Rowoon stars as Jung Ji Woon, who is Lee Hwi’s teacher.
Below are three memorable scenes that made viewers’ hearts flutter.
Jung Ji Woon began to revere Lee Hwi and fall for her charisma after seeing how she stepped up to keep him from being dismissed from his position, following her around with sparkling eyes like an excited puppy. One time, he made a misstep and was about to fall over when Lee Hwi deftly reached out to grab his waist just in time. Jung Ji Woon appeared dazzled by Lee Hwi’s sparkling aura in that moment as he unthinkingly blurted out, “You’re so cool, Your Majesty.” These cute moments where he has eyes for no one but Lee Hwi deliver an extra layer of excitement to the drama.
King Hyejong (Lee Pil Mo) expressed tremendous disappointment in Lee Hwi for hurling her fist at Taegam (Park Ki Woong). Although Lee Hwi desperately wanted to earn her father’s approval, her sudden fit of anger ended up ruining everything, and King Hyejong’s rebuke sent her spiraling.
The one who came to her in her moment of loneliness was none other than Jung Ji Woon, who comforted her with the words, “You did great. Your Majesty, I know you did great.” After hearing the words she most wanted to hear, in her greatest moment of need, Lee Hwi leaned on someone else for the first time and let her tears fall. The scene tugged at viewers’ heartstrings as they watched Lee Hwi undergo a change after working to keep her secret all by herself.
Lee Hwi and Jung Ji Woon talked about Taegam at the old palace that was filled with their childhood memories. While thinking about how Taegam and the king’s concubine had to hide their love for each other, Lee Hwi reflected on her own life as she said, “They seem like people who are living their lives differently than the way they want to. It’s such a shame that they have no other choice but to hide their feelings.” Bewildered by her musings, Jung Ji Woon responded, “What happened to the mighty person I first met? I didn’t know you were so soft-hearted.” Out of the blue, he then landed a kiss on Lee Hwi’s cheek, the sweet ending leaving both Lee Hwi and viewers with bated breath.
“The King’s Affection” airs every Monday and Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. KST.
