The episode opens with Seon-yul handing over the diary given to him by Soo-hyun, to the real survivor of the fire incident- Kwon Min-hyuk. Soon, Seon-yul’s real identity as the son of the man Soo-hyun murdered is revealed with a flashback of how his life went downhill after the incident. From having people trying to ruin his father’s funeral to being bullied in school, Seon-yul faced it all.
Now, he spends each day getting his revenge on the woman who ruined the mother-son duo’s lives with the hope that his mother will wake up one day. Meanwhile, Soo-hyun is surrounded by doubts of her own after meeting with the psychiatrist who gave her Seon-yul’s contact and asks her about the diary she never mentioned.
Later, she recollects how Seon-yul seemed to have no problem when facing fire nor did he have any marks on his back. She starts researching on her own while Seon-yul’s friend is seen taking care of Eun-min after which she runs into Tae-ho. She shows a friendly self to him and it is soon revealed to be a part of Seon-yul’s plan.
Elsewhere, Seon-yul is following Su-ho while the latter is meeting with a friend who tells him about Seon-yul. He tells Su-ho that it was Seon-yul who found clues that cleared Kim Joon’s path to making it to the top. This intrigues Su-ho and he asks to get more information about this person, doubting that he is the one who sent the pictures to Soo-hyun and her mother.
However, he is unaware that Seon-yul is behind something different from Kim Joon and has been laying his trap for a very long time. On the other hand, Seon-yul clears Min-hyuk’s debts and asks him to lead a better life while Soo-hyun visits Min-hyuk’s parents’ graves and realises the trap behind her first meeting with Seon-yul.
Suddenly, she gets a call from Seon-yul who subtly hints that he is at her mother’s restaurant while calling her out for lunch. However, Soo-hyun tries to keep calm and understand the reason why he is like this. Meanwhile. Kim Joon is working hard towards the elections and tries to get Su-ho to team up with him.
However, Su-ho is ready to bring him down and keeps his eyes open to Kim Joon’s downfall. Right as he is leaving his meeting with Kim Joon, he spots Seon-yul. There, another flashback shows Kim Joon helping the mother-son duo after the incident and is now trying to get Seon-yul back to med school instead of being of help in this way.
He then promises to bring justice to the duo upon his entry into the Blue House after which the meeting ends. Later, Soo-hyun drops Seon-yul a visit at his workplace and tries to get a reaction from him by mentioning her mother’s restaurant, the fire incident victim’s graves, and so on, but gets nothing.
Later, she notices Yu-ri and Su-ho’s awkwardness when facing each other during a family dinner which they put on Yu-ri confronting Su-ho about his cheating. But the more Soo-hyun thinks and observes this exchange, the more things seem suspicious. The scene changes to Seon-yul’s friend thanking the psychiatrist for helping lure Soo-hyun.
Meanwhile, Soo-hyun is looking into the jaywalking incident herself and finds out that Eun-bin’s son has been a medical student. She soon gets more information about this student from Tae-ho and comes to a conclusion that shakes her. She soon contacts Seon-yul and asks to meet him.
Elsewhere, Seon-yul prepares to meet Soo-hyun, not as the person she knew but as the one who was most hurt by her. As the intricate trap set for Soo-hyun by Seon-yul is revealed, he finally comes face-to-face with Soo-hyun as Kwon Seon-yul.
The real excitement begins as the second half of the show is here and so is the real fight-off against our two leads- Kim Nam-joo and Cha Eun-woo. The two actors have already shown us what they have got with this episode and we are surely excited about how the story takes a turn from here.
Having shifted from the point of view of the mother who lost everything, we are now looking at the events in the show from the point of view of a child whose world was suddenly turned upside down. While we have some subtle hints that are pointing at the bigger controversy here, there is a chance that the two rivals from this episode will soon work together.
Altogether, this was a truly significant episode for he show and we have loved the way that it doesn’t empathise with just one side.
