Watch: “YG Treasure Box” Premiere Kicks Off The Intense Competition Among Trainees For Spot In New Boy Group

Nov 17, 2018

YG Entertainment’s new survival show “YG Treasure Box” has aired its much-anticipated premiere.
The November 16 episode of the show revealed the first chapter in the story of the creation of YG’s next boy group. The premiere opened with the sound of trainees describing what YG means to them.
“It’s my dream company,” said one, while another described how making it into YG has been their only goal. The trainees also listed how the agency has producted artists including BIGBANG, WINNER, iKON, and BLACKPINK. Some went on to confess that once they made it into YG, they felt a lot of pressure. One said, “My friends are always asking me when I’m going to debut.”
Yang Hyun Suk was then shown at a meeting, talking about the upcoming boy group and saying that he’s now considering trainees’ looks more than before. He looked at photos of the trainees and described them as the gems within YG’s treasure box.
The episode went on to show the lives of the current male trainees, including “K-pop Star 2” runner-up Bang Yedam (who has been training with the company for six years), “K-pop Star 6” winner Kim Jongseob (of the duo “Boyfriend”), contestants from “MIXNINE,” and more.
The trainees are separated into teams and they’re evaluated on the last Friday of each month based on group and individual performances.
During the episode, Yang Hyun Suk told the trainees that the planned number of members for the debut group is five, but that the exact number will be announced during the show.
“I don’t know who will debut, but if you give your everything in the coming months, you could gain a lot from this opportunity,” he said to them.
During the monthly evaluations of the three teams Treasure A, B, and C, Yang Hyun Suk expressed his dissatisfaction with their performances. He then announced that the 22 trainees would be joined by seven “hidden” trainees from YG’s branch in Japan, bringing their number to 29.
