The drama includes a daring scene on its first episodes.
On November 21st, 'The Last Empress' premiered on SBS. Prior to its premiere, a lot of fans had been waiting for it. On its first episodes, 'The Last Empress' indeed did not disappoint viewers. Its unique story plot managed to capture fans' heart from the very beginning. According to Nielsen Korea, 'The Last Empress' took the #1 spot for the timeslot, beating the other dramas with 7.6 percent during episode one and 7.2 percent during episode two in viewership ratings. MBC's 'Children of Nobody' MBN's 'Love Alert,' and KBS 2TV's 'Feel Good to Die' aired in the same timeslot.
On its first episodes, 'The Last Empress' also included R-rated bed scenes between Shin Sungrok and Lee Elijah. The two immersed themselves in the story and showed what professionalism really looks like. It's definitely not a common thing for a Korean drama to show 19+ bed scenes on its first episodes.
The drama focuses its story on Oh Ssuni (played by Jang Nara), who is a musical actress with a bright personality. Suddenly, she marries Emperor Lee Hyuk (played by Shin Sungrok). There, Oh Ssuni goes up against the absolute power of the palace and fights against the power. Meanwhile, she falls in love with Na Wangsik (played by Choi Jinhyuk) who is a bodyguard of the imperial family. Na Wangsik came to the palace to take revenge on the person responsible for his mother's death. Due to the death of Emperor Lee Hyuk's grandmother, Oh Ssuni breaks down the royal family with the help of Na Wangsik and finds true love.
