SBS’s upcoming drama starring Shin Ye Eun, Ryeo Woon, and more has shared a look at the drama’s script reading!
“The Secret Romantic Guesthouse” (previously known as “The Love Story of Flower Scholars”) is a mysterious romance drama that tells the story of four youths including Yoon Dan Oh (Shin Ye Eun), the owner of the guesthouse Yihwawon which is free from stereotypes, and three boarding students—known as the flower scholars—who hold secrets.
Even though it was the first time the cast members gathered together, the atmosphere was said to have been welcoming and lively as the actors greeted each other warmly with hugs.
Adding to the warmth at the scene was Shin Ye Eun who stars as Yoon Dan Oh, the innkeeper of Yihwawon who takes charge of the guesthouse after her parents passed away. Shin Ye Eun led the reading with her bright and confident charm that was a 180-degree transformation to her villain role in her recent drama “The Glory.”
Ryeo Woon plays Kang San, a scholar preparing for martial arts who has a kind heart hidden behind his somewhat cold aura. Breaking away from his “maknae image” he showed in dramas such as “Homemade Love Story” and “Through the Darkness,” Ryeo Woon charismatically drew admiration from his co-stars with his dynamic acting.
In addition, Kang Hoon, who is appearing in his second historical drama after “The Red Sleeve,” captivated hearts with his fatal smile and goofy behavior as he portrayed the typical playboy and liberal arts student Kim Si Yeol, a charming character who is fearless and can’t stand injustice.
Different from his usual roles as characters who are born with silver spoons in their mouths like in dramas such as “Extraordinary You” and “Monthly Magazine Home,” Jung Gun Joo heralded a drastic transformation as he took on the role of Jung Yoo Ha, a scholar who has a delicate personality and cares deeply about other people’s feelings.
Furthermore, supporting actors such as Oh Man Seok, Han Chae Ah, In Gyo Jin, Lee Mi Do, Lee Joon Hyuk, Hyun Woo, and Hwang Bo Reum Byeol raised the tension in the atmosphere with their passionate acting. Oh Man Seok plays Jang Tae Hwa, an outstanding warrior who holds a dark desire for revenge, while Han Chae Ah takes on the role of Hwa Ryeong, the beautiful owner of the largest guest house Buyeonggak. In Gyo Jin will play Yuk Yuk Ho, the oldest boarding student at Yihwawon, while Lee Mi Do plays Na Jung Daek, Yoon Dan Oh’s nanny who will boast fun chemistry with Yuk Yuk Ho.
Lee Joon Hyuk plays the despicable Sang Sun, an expert at betraying others, Hyun Woo appears as Lee Chang, the one who causes a fall-out among his brothers, while Hwang Bo Reum Byeol will play Ban Ya, someone who still carries the dignity of a noblewoman even after her family’s downfall.
The production team of “The Secret Romantic Guesthouse” remarked, “‘The Secret Romantic Guesthouse’ is the [result of the] combined forces of a dream team of actors, talented producers who will skillfully control the flow and suspense of the drama, and the indisputable beauty of historical dramas. We ask for your interest in the exciting and sweet romance that happens at Joseon’s era guesthouse Yihwawon.”
