tvN’s “Twinkling Watermelon” has shared a sneak peek of the upcoming fourth episode!
“Twinkling Watermelon” is a fantasy coming-of-age drama in which a CODA (child of deaf adult) student born with a gift for music accidentally travels back in time to 1995 through a suspicious music shop. There, he forms the band Watermelon Sugar with other mysterious youths.
Ryeoun stars as Eun Gyeol, the only person who can hear in his family, who leads a double life as the perfect model student by day and a band guitarist by night. Choi Hyun Wook takes on the role of the passionate Lee Chan, who is full of Generation X vibes.
In the previous episode, Eun Gyeol’s life took an unexpected turn. After visiting a music shop to sell his guitar, he found himself transported back in time to 1995 and encountered his father Lee Chan, who was a high school student at the time. With no familiar faces or currency from that period, Eun Gyeol had no choice but to fervently follow Lee Chan, his sole lifeline, in order to avoid ending up homeless.
As fate would have it, Lee Chan is also in need of “a shield” to protect himself from the punishment attacks by his grandmother Go Yang Hee (Go Doo Shim) due to his terrible exam scores. After he introduces Eun Gyeol as his private tutor, the two embark on a father-son scheme that would prove both comical and poignant.
The newly released stills show the first meeting between Eun Gyeol and his great-grandmother as he steps foot into the Snail Boarding House, which is owned by Go Yang Hee, his great-grandmother—a person he had only heard of until then. In a separate scene, Lee Chan is desperately trying to evade his grandmother’s wrath with his report card fluttering through the air while Eun Gyeol observes this chaotic situation from the sidelines with a bewildered expression, sparking curiosity about their tumultuous first encounter.
Unaware that the two are telling lies, Go Yang Hee then proceeds to arrange a party at the boarding house to celebrate the arrival of her grandson’s private tutor. As Go Yang Hee and Lee Chan sing along to nostalgic tunes, Eun Gyeol’s eyes reveal mixed emotions as he watches them.
Director Son Jung Hyun commented, “Personally, the scene where the grandmother and Lee Chan sing at the boarding house and Eun Gyeol watches them, made me feel both heartwarming and sad for them. Please pay attention to Eun Gyeol’s narration as he looks at his father’s twinkling youth.”
Episode 4 of “Twinkling Watermelon” will air tonight on October 3 at 8:50 p.m. KST.
