Recap Korean Drama "Poong the Joseon Psychiatrist" Episode 5 and 6

Se-poong and Eun-woo don’t disappoint us as they return with the lady and the young master. They also motivate the lady to take a stand as she recounts the murder that had taken place in front of everyone. Man Bok is saved and is given a warm welcome by everyone at Gyesoo clinic.

Meanwhile, rumours about the former king’s death are flying around Hanyang and Jo Tae-hak is ready to take matters into his own hands. He now wishes for Se-yeop’s death, who on the other hand has found a book that may reveal the truth about the former king’s poisoning.

The next day, a patient has been brought to the clinic and is said to have been possessed. The child is brought to the clinic by his stepmother aka the legal wife and has bruises all over him which are a sign of being bullied. Se-poong thinks it is the legal wife who did this and wants to question her but is stopped by the rest.

Se-poong is unable to find the cause of his ailment until the boy later wakes up and chugs down water. He reasons that it is dehydration and goes to drop the child back home. There, he suspects the reason for the child’s condition is his messed-up family.

Later that night, the child comes to the clinic all alone as if sleepwalking and once again starts drinking water aggressively. The child’s mother who is a concubine follows him here and asks Se-poong to take care of him.

The next day during a conversation between Eun-woo and Shin-woo, we get to know that the latter had feelings for the former before she got married. He tried convincing her father but wasn’t able to succeed which made him go to Hanyang and become Tae-hak’s adopted son.

Upon knowing about Se-yeop’s location, Tae-hak tells Shin-woo to kill him but without letting anyone know. The next day, Se-poong once again takes the child back home while Eun-woo follows them to attend a gathering of ladies that the legal wife is attending.

Se-poong is astonished when the child’s mother tells him to go to school while he is in bad health and later saves him when he is being bullied by his half-brothers. Elsewhere, Eun-woo has managed to get a chance to meet the legal wife the next day.

 

Later that evening, he gives a set of medical books to Eun-woo along with his set of acupuncture needles while letting her know that she will perform acupuncture on the legal wife.

The next day, Eun-woo is made to practise on Man Bok before the two leave for the official’s house. Se-poong tells the legal wife that she must be under stress because of the child or his concubine mother. He tries to see if she has been harassing the child but finds out that the concubine is dominating the legal wife.

He then helps Eun-woo perform her first acupuncture and the two leave. In Hanyang, Ji-han gets to know about the death of Se-yeop’s father which leaves him shocked.

Back in the village, a servant from the official’s house comes to ask for a physician to save the child while the legal wife has been blamed for sorcery by the concubine. She has been locked up by orders from the official.

Se-poong manages to save the child’s life by performing acupuncture with Eun-woo’s help but is caught by the official. To get the child out of there he makes up a reason that the child’s water energy is affecting his fire energy. He also speaks about the probability of him having a stroke which scares him.

The group then brings the child to the clinic while Ji-han stays back to treat the official. They then discuss the situation in the household while trying to find out who has been harassing the child. Looking at this, Ji-han stops them but when met with opposition he tells them to come up with a plan.

 

The next day, Se-poong tells him the plan that they have come up with which begins with letting the superstitious official know about the Namhaedaek’s prediction ability. She tells him that his future is bright but there is someone who is blocking it.

It then continues with Namhaedaek performing a ritual in the official’s house while Ji-han screams about the child’s treatment in front of the shed where the legal wife is held. But there is someone else who has heard it too.

Later that night we see the sons of the legal wife getting her out of the shed while a figure enters the storage and takes a bowl of salt with her. The figure then goes to the child’s room and pours a big spoonful of salt into a bowl of porridge, ready to feed it to him. The figure is revealed to be the child’s birth mother, the concubine.

The official is shocked at her actions and it is revealed that she had been doing this to gain pity through her child and take over the legal wife’s position. She is angered by Se-poong and goes to stab him but is blocked by Eun-woo.

Luckily, she is saved by the acupuncture needle box that was given to her by Se-poong. After the whole fiasco, he tells her to never do this again. Later, Ji-han tells everyone that the child will be sent to a friend in Hanyang and will be studying medicine over there.

 

The next day, the legal wife decided to leave her husband’s house with her sons. She stops by the clinic and takes the child with her to Hanyang. The child bids goodbye to everyone in the clinic and even his half-brothers, who have understood his situation, show their support for him.

Later that evening, Shin-woo is trying to find the reason for the blackening of the knife that he found. He visits Ji-han to know about it but when the latter feigns innocence, he points his sword at him. This is seen by Se-poong and ends the episode.
