Recap Korean Drama "Link: Eat, Love, Die" Episode 15

Link: Eat Love Kill episode 15 starts with Da-hyun getting a whiff of Gye-hoon’s feelings. Standing in front of the restaurant, she puts two and two together and realises that Gye-hoon might be in trouble. After he tells her that he needs her, she rushes to him to comfort him, all the while slowly realising that Gye-hoon has been feeling all of her feeling with her.

Afterwards, the two sit down to discuss their discoveries and how people could be this heartless – that if everyone around them had been a bit more sympathetic, then this horrible cycle of guilt and hate could’ve been avoided. Gye-hoon later mentions that she was right previously, they can’t be together, and it’s best that they break up.

Da-hyun, in turn, kisses him and agrees to his suggestion. It’s a night of heartbreak for both of our protagonists as they realise the gravity of the situation, and Da-hyun can’t help but sob after seeing that Gye-hoon’s window isn’t illuminated like normal. He, too, isn’t doing any better at home.

Meanwhile, Jung-ho, still tied up at Young-hun’s warehouse, begs his friend to kill him and then himself since there’s no way out of it for him anymore. Young-hun seems angry at the suggestion, and the next day, the police station is abuzz when they don’t have any news about Jung-ho.

Meanwhile, Da-hyun gets to know from Jin-hoo that he has decided to close the restaurant. Da-hyun acts normal around her family later in an effort to mask her feelings so that Gye-hoon can feel happy with her as well. On the other hand, Gye-hoon packs up his things to leave, and Min-jo and Won-tak share their feelings for each other after she tries to get him back to the police station.

As things are put in boxes, and the restaurant is emptied out, there’s a sense of emptiness among the neighbourhood people as well. Da-hyun, too, feels the emptiness inside her. As time moves on and Gye-hoon finds a different place to open up her restaurant, Da-hyun, too, finds things to occupy herself with.

Later, Da-hyun and her family go to the police station for questioning regarding Jin-geun’s death. Things go well, and the family looks confident, but we get to know here that Chun-ok isn’t Bok-hee’s biological mother. Later that day, Da-hyun gets invited to clean the restaurant with Gye-hoon and the gang, but she turns down the offer and goes to study instead.

However, unable to concentrate, she ends up at an arcade, remembering her memories with Gye-hoon and feeling heartbroken. As Won-tak and Min-jo learn from Young-hwan, who Jin-geun was with that night, Da-hyun is picked up by Young-hun, but she turns him down on the offer. Da-hyun remembers what he had done to her and Gye-young all those years ago but reminds herself that she cannot let him know.

Things come to a head when Da-hyun finds herself in an alley and finds Young-hun following him. As he gives chase, Gye-hoon, who has left her deep fear, rushes out to find her, and so do Bok-hee and Chun-ok, whom Da-hyun calls just before being chased. Gye-hoon, meanwhile, calls and informs Won-tak when he doesn’t get any response from her on the phone.

As he chases her down these alleys, he hears Da-hyun’s phone ringing and is horrified to find it lying on the road. Facing immediate danger and without any way to call for help, Young-hun finds Da-hyun hiding inside a store. Meanwhile, Gye-hoon rushes around the redevelopment block after feeling the same feeling that she felt when Gye-young went missing and rushes to stop Da-hyun from befalling the same fate.

By a stroke of luck, Gye-hoon finds Young-hun just in time before the latter stabs Da-hyun and of course, the two start fighting fiercely with each other. Gye-hoon falls unconscious, and unfortunately, Young-hun stabs Da-hyun. When Gye-hoon comes to, he beats the actual crap out of Young-hun and then chokes him unconscious. He immediately rushes to Da-hyun, unaware that Young-hun has come to. However, before the latter can cause any more damage, Won-tak and the team get there to apprehend Young-hun.

In the end, as Da-hyun lies there writhing in pain, she realises how she is linked to Gye-hoon – when they were kidnapped, Da-hyun and Gye-young shared some intensely close moments comforting each other. When they were trying to escape, Gye-young made her friend promise that if she wasn’t able to get out of the situation alive to tell her brother something. Since she had forgotten her memories, she never was able to tell him – that it wasn’t his fault and he shouldn’t cry because of it.

The promise tied Gye-young and Da-hyun together in that moment of desperation, fear and anxiety. In turn, it tied Da-hyun to Gye-hoon as well. Anyway, as Da-hyun is taken away in the ambulance, she finally fulfils her promise to her friend 18 years ago, leaving Gye-hoon a crying mess but letting him come to terms with the tragedy.

What an enjoyable episode this was. Although, I must say that I don’t care about the antagonist in this story because he didn’t have any impact on me. The storyline didn’t really make him out to create an impact, and he was suddenly introduced with no background.

That being said, that chase sequence and eventual crescendo because of it was thrilling and entertaining and kept me hooked. I almost thought that Young-hun would hurt Da-hyun more before Gye-hoon found them, but it’s good that they stopped before things got nasty. The action sequence between Young-hun and Gye-hoon was great as well and totally believable.

I must mention here that Yeo Jin-goo is excellent in this episode and just so great at bringing Gye-hoon’s emotions forward, especially in the last few scenes. The absolute last scene with his sister was heartbreaking because you know that it’s over, but as he gets the answers that he has tried to find for 18 years, you know it’s going to be a difficult thing to move on from.

All in all, I found this episode to be enjoyable. It would’ve been better had they made some other character the antagonist, who actually made more of an impact on us from earlier episodes. That being said, I am really interested to know Young-hun’s reasonings and why he did what he did.
