Becoming Witch Episode 3 picks up from the three plot twists it left us within the last episode. Jin-a is injured and taken to the hospital but, what we thought was an abdominal wound turns out to be her liposuction stitches come out loose, causing her to bleed. Hee-so asks her stoic mother-in-law, how should she kill her and smothers her with a pillow. Ma-ri’s revelation of not divorcing Nak-goo, comes to light for the latter.

Ma-ri pretends to be a loving wife by cooking Nak-goo a feast for breakfast and saying that she loves him. Meanwhile, she also simultaneously imagines what it would be like to kill Nak-goo. However, the deal breaker comes when Nak-goo becomes clear, even after the brilliant meal Ma-ri has cooked him that he would divorce her anyway. Soon, Nak-goo realizes Ma-ri has put shellfish in his dish, which he is allergic to and the two rage into a comical fight.

Jin-a returns to her society and is a part of a joke as everyone has gotten to know about her liposuction. When she enters her unit, she feels a presence and soon sees The Squirrel climb out of her house. She warns the watch guard ladies of the society and they all soon engage in catching the man and it is successful.

Ma-ri’s life continues to play at her. Talking with her mother over the phone is no help and then there is a realtor showing her house to a would-be married couple for sale. She gets to know Nak-goo has put it on sale but, she has some tricks up her own sleeve to push the potential buyers away. Meanwhile, Nak-goo suffers at his workplace to keep his job.

Ma-ri has her second meeting with Go-eun to understand where the latter stands in the relationship with her husband but, Go-eun’s offer to share Nak-goo catches her off guard. We also get a snippet of how Go-eun and Nak-goo met in the first place. Jin-a visits her everyday coffee place and hears a song her husband used to sing, only to get to know that it is being played by The Squirrel during his crimes.

All the three friends meet at Oracle’s coffee place and share their stories and views. The Oracle seems to be listening to their conversation through a device fitted at the table and she isn’t happy with it. While talking Ma-ri, Jin-a and Hee-so spot a lady with a big black hat and wonder who it is.

At home, Jin-a remembers her husband. We also get to know how he passed away in the first place. But, the mood is angry in Ma-ri’s household who confronts Nak-goo about the realtor business. Nak-goo tries to trick Ma-ri into signing for alimony and the assets she would inherit after divorce from him but, Ma-ri does not fall for it.

Jin-a’s attacker is caught and it turns out to be the locksmith guy who repaired her lock. He tells his side of the story about what happened the day Jin-a was injured. Meanwhile, Nak-goo’s father’s funeral anniversary takes place at his mother’s house and, his mother is disapproving of the idea of divorce. However, when he pulls his sister for some legal advice, she lets him know he needs to do something, such as getting kicked out to make Ma-ri look guilty too to file for divorce.

Jin-a celebrates with her neighbourhood ladies about the catching of the Squirrel when she gets to know that the locksmith boy isn’t actually the squirrel. Hee-so talks to her mother over call, who is in San Fransisco to feel better. Meanwhile, Ma-ri is seen collecting evidence of her cooking food, shopping receipts for her father-in-law’s memorial service and more to prove that she has been a good wife to Nak-goo.

As for Nak-goo, he lands in trouble with Sang-pil, the guy Go-eun is seeing when they both end up in front of her door. Nak-goo runs for his life as Sang-pil follows and ultimately both beat each other up and land up in front of the police.

Becoming Witch Episode 3 Ending

At the end of Becoming Witch Episode 3, Ma-ri realizes that Go-eun and Nak-goo met on a heavily rainy day, which seemingly changes everything for her and she now has to move to plan B. Hee-so plugs the plug on her mother and Jin-a, on the other hand, spills her drink as soon as she watches something on the TV.

Becoming Witch Episode 3 Review

Is the show catching pace? Maybe. It is funny and it is offering us interesting elements to hold onto. However, it is still messy and directionless when it comes to switching scenes or exploring a particular scene more deeply. Hopefully, with time this will lessen. It will also be interesting to see if Jin-a’s death husband is back alive and now the murderer and the consequences of Ma-ri and Hee-so’s last actions.
