NewJeans, SEVENTEEN, TWICE, V, Jisoo, FIFTY FIFTY, aespa, And Jungkook Make Rolling Stone’s “The 100 Best Songs Of 2023” List

Rolling Stone has published its year-end roundup of “The 100 Best Songs of 2023”!

On December 1 local time, the American magazine published its annual list of its picks for the best songs of the year—and a number of K-pop songs made the cut.

Check out the eight songs by K-pop artists that made the list below!

6. NewJeans’ “Super Shy”

NewJeans’ hit single “Super Shy” ranked No. 6 on this year’s list. Kristine Kwak wrote, “The song is one of the purest pop thrills of the year, with a dreamy melody; a bright drum-and-bass beat; and Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein sharing crushed-out lyrics you can’t help but sing along with.”

47. SEVENTEEN’s “Super”

SEVENTEEN’s hit title track “Super” made the list at No. 47. Emphasizing the meaning of the song’s lyrics, Michelle Hyun Kim wrote, “As the boys chant, ‘I love my team/I love my crew,’ it’s a proud affirmation of how SEVENTEEN reached their current success: There’s strength in the collective.”

55. TWICE’s “MOONLIGHT SUNRISE”

TWICE’s English-language single “MOONLIGHT SUNRISE” took No. 55 on the list. Kristine Kwak noted, “TWICE underscored their maturity by showing an artistic range beyond their signature bubblegum pop, with a Miami bass-infused R&B track.”

58. BTS’s V’s “Rainy Days”

V’s solo single “Rainy Days” ranked No. 58, with Jon Dolan writing, “[V] unfurled his old-school credentials on ‘Rainy Days,’ crooning over a forlorn piano and laidback beat as he explored the refined depths of his deliciously cloudy baritone. The result was an undisputedly umbrella-worthy, new-look, quiet-storm pleasure.”

67. BLACKPINK’s Jisoo’s “FLOWER”

Jisoo’s solo debut single “FLOWER” came in at No. 67, with Tim Chan writing, “‘FLOWER’ cemented the singer as a certified solo star. A sophisticated track with a staccato, Latin-tinged melody and Caribbean-inspired percussion, ‘FLOWER’ feels instantly familiar yet unlike anything else on the radio.”

75. FIFTY FIFTY’s “Cupid”

FIFTY FIFTY’s smash hit “Cupid” made this year’s list at No. 75. Maura Johnston wrote, “The breakthrough single from K-pop group FIFTY FIFTY is a delectable chunk of happy-sad bubblegum, its plush harmonies and sing-song lead vocals making its gently frustrated lyrics feel like they were transposed straight from a fluffy pink diary with a stubborn lock and entries written in loopy, heart-adorned script.”

95. aespa’s “Spicy”

aespa’s “Spicy” took No. 95 on the list, with Kristine Kwak noting, “‘Spicy’ showcased a new side of Karina, Giselle, Winter, and Ningning. With strong vocals, grimy synths, rolling bass, and huge drum buildups, the song brought the girls closer into the real world of universal pop thrills, reminiscent of early 2000s pop a la Britney Spears.”

99. BTS’s Jungkook’s “Seven” (featuring Latto)

Jungkook’s official solo debut single “Seven” ranked No. 99 on this year’s list. Maura Johnston wrote, “BTS member Jungkook’s soulful vocals are backed by an insistent garage beat on this swirling confection that’s squarely focused on getting down every day of the week.”

Congratulations to all of the artists who made the list!
