My Lovely Liar (2023) Episode 4

Aug 21, 2023

My Lovely Liar episode 4 picks up where we left off with Sol-hee rescuing Do-ha from the noisy paparazzi stationed outside their apartment building. She quickly puts on his mask for him and hides his face, walking past the two paparazzi. Do-ha is shocked that she helped him without any questions. She still thinks the men are his creditors.

Unfortunately, the two men follow Sol-hee to ask about the man in the next apartment. She tells them she knows nothing and thinks no one lives there. In the meantime, she invites Do-ha inside her house and quickly tries to clean up the strewn clothes.

She starts getting anxious about having Do-ha in her house, so she starts peeling an apple for him. He, however, takes it from her and peels it himself.  They eat it while talking about random stuff. Do-ha tells Sol-hee that his name is Kim Seung-ju. Sol-hee is shocked that she can’t hear the ringing. It turns out Kim Do-ha is not his real name so he is not lying.

The two of them watch a football match but Sol-hee seems distracted.  There is also an awkward moment when a Viagra advert comes on the TV. Do-ha changes the channel and they watch some drama about a woman with special abilities who can only turn it off when the man she loves is around.

This prompts Sol-hee to ask if Do-ha has ever lied and he admits he has, just like everyone else in the world. Sol-hee feels less uneasy after hearing this. Meanwhile, the two men wait outside their apartment and Syaon roams around the town trying to find out Do-ha’s new address. She calls Do-ha but he is in the restroom so Sol-hee sees her call.

Once Do-ha returns from the restroom, a Syaon advert comes up. She asks Do-ha how he feels about Syaon. He clarifies that he has never fancied Syaon as a woman.  They get back to their supernatural show and discuss how they would feel if they were in the characters’ shoes. Do-ha says he won’t feel confident and Sol-hee says she would give up. It is what she does when someone lies. Do-ha jokes she must find someone who is good at lying

Outside the apartment, the two men get into an altercation with a deliveryman and the police are called over. Coincidentally, Gang-min is one of the officers to arrive at the scene. He quickly handles the situation and is about to leave when Sol-hee opens the door. Gang-min is surprised to see her and notices the men’s shoes at her doorstep. He assumes she is with her boyfriend and excuses himself. Do-ha later asks Sol-hee to talk with Gang-min so he doesn’t misunderstand. With the paparazzi gone, Do-ha returns to his apartment.

The next morning, Deuk Chan confronts his brother for teaming up with Syaon and causing trouble for Do-ha. As they talk Jae-chan says that Do-ha owes them for the night they provided him with an alibi after Eom-ji went missing.

Deuk-chan later visits Do-ha and apologizes. He finds it weird that Do-ha seems too relaxed about the whole matter. Do-ha confesses that Sol-hee helped him again and his identity wasn’t revealed. Deuk-chan wonders if Sol-hee knows the truth about Do-ha but Do-ha says she is clueless.

Elsewhere, Sol-hee confides in Chi-hoon and Cassandra that her ability doesn’t seem to work around Do-ha. The two get excited because they believe it is a sign that Do-ha is her soulmate.

In the meantime, Do-ha plays his new song for Deuk-chan and it is good. He tells Deuk-chan that he is having second thoughts about working with Syaon. Do-ha understands that Syaon relies on him musically but also has feelings for him. He promises to talk to her about it but, Deuk-chan warns him it is not the right time. Syaon is promoting her new album so she can’t afford a heartbreak at the moment.

Speaking of Syaon, she is at a dance practice and runs into Moo-jin who is always causing trouble. This time he gets into Syaon’s head saying she would be nothing without Do-ha.

Back to Do-ha and Deuk-chan, they run into Sol-hee on their way out. Deuk-chan lies about his work and invites Sol-hee to dinner. He wants to thank her for helping Do-ha. This time, Sol-hee detects the lies but plays dumb. The two are unable to keep up with their little ruse the more she asks questions so she leaves.  Deuk-chan finds her weird but is more concerned about how Do-ha is acting so calmly about the situation. Sol-hee wonders if she should get close to Do-ha to test her theory. She ponders about inviting him to dinner.

The next day, Do-ha heads to the local market and remembers what happened to him in a different market in the past. This was around the time he was accused of killing Eom-ji. Some men ganged up against him and proceeded to beat the living lights out of him. Fortunately, this time he runs into Bo-ro, who apologizes for thinking he was the pervert and gives him some bread.

On his way back home, he runs into Sol-hee, who invites him to dinner. Do-ha turns her down saying he doesn’t eat outside. She insists on finding a way to make him comfortable to have dinner with her at a restaurant. She asks for his number and promises to look for a perfect restaurant for him. Do-ha obliges and shares his number.

Elsewhere, Do-ha’s mom meets with one of her sponsors for her public office campaign. She lies to the woman that Do-ha is in Germany. The woman worries that Do-ha’s incident will be brought up in the campaign but his mom assures her that there is nothing to worry about. She makes an interesting comment about Eom-ji’s body never being found and deduces it must have been eaten by fish.

In the meantime, Gang-min visits Sol-hee’s tarot cafe. They talk a bit about their past. He sincerely apologizes for hurting her. He admits that it was wrong to break up with her one month after he proposed and move right away with little explanation. He adds that he is back in Seoul because he wanted to see her again. For the past three years he never even called her, so Sol-hee thinks he intended on hurting her. Gang-min clarifies he was scared to contact her.

Sol-hee lies that she has moved on and has a good man by her side. At the same time, Do-ha arrives at the restaurant and Sol-hee, declares him as her new beau. Do-ha quickly holds her hands and Gang-min apologizes before leaving. Do-ha demands to walk her to their apartment to make sure Gng-min is sold on their relationship. He asks if Gang-min is stalking her but she insists it is not like that. She says Gang-min is a good guy. Do-ha quickly leaves after getting her safely to the apartment building.

He heads over to the Jazz club and Joong-kyu teases him for being late. He jokes that Do-ha was probably late thanks to Sol-hee. Do-ha tries to deny it and gets teased more.

Back in Seoul, Deuk-chan notices that Syaon is following him. He warns her that Do-ha is thinking of ending his musical partnership with her.  He asks her to get a grip on her feelings before Do-ha gets fed up with her antics. Syaon heads home and remembers how everything started for her. At the time, she was auditioning for many entertainment agencies but was heavily criticised for being fat. She was talented but according to the agencies, she didn’t have the look.

She was about to give up when she met Do-ha and he convinced her to follow her dream and debut. She was the only one who managed to give his songs justice. This is how they came to work together. Over time, Syaon started having feelings for Do-ha and tried to get his attention. Sadly, Do-ha never saw her as a woman.

Back in Yeonseo, Cassandra notices that Sol-hee seems too distracted by her next-door neighbour. This time, Chi-hoon is not around to tease her about it. He is at Syaon’s fan meeting to get an autograph. He notices she seems sad and tries to cheer her up. His actions seem strange so he is dragged away by the security team.

Later, Sol-hee texts Do-ha informing him that she found a good restaurant for them to visit. They meet for dinner and he ends up feeling safe enough to take off his mask. Sol-hee asks him to try and lie to her. She asks him to tell her she is pretty and he does. I am not sure what Sol-hee thought, does she not think she is pretty? Anyway, she doesn’t hear any ringing. They continue to enjoy their dinner and Do-ha confesses he no longer drinks.

As they eat and chat away, Syaon calls Do-ha and hints that she is about to commit suicide. He quickly rushes out and Sol-hee follows him. She notices that he seems too out of it. Do-ha tries to call Syaon back but she is unreachable. He calls Deuk-chan demanding to know Syaon’s schedule and informs him that Syaon is contemplating suicide. Do-ha tries to drive but he is having a severe panic attack. Sol-hee demands to drive him and he makes her promise to keep the matter confidential.

They drive to the beach and Syaon is already in the sea. He quickly rushes and grabs her. Sol-hee watches as he carries Syaon to the car. Syaon is taken aback when she sees Sol-hee in Do-ha’s car. She is even more shocked that Do-ha let Sol-hee see his face and know his name. Once Syaon’s manager arrives, Do-ha angrily kicks her out of the car, not caring to answer her questions about Sol-hee. Syaon is shocked that Do-ha lost his temper with her and quickly jumps out of the car.

Sol-hee drives Do-ha back home and notices he has a fever. She tries her best to take care of him during the ride home. Once they get home, she tries to wake him up. Do-ha is still out of it and having a nightmare about the police interrogation. He starts mumbling in his dream saying that he didn’t kill her. Sol-hee carefully listens to him and hears a ding sound when he confesses his innocence.

The Episode Review

Do-ha and Sol-hee are getting close and seem that they are learning more about each other’s past. Sol-hee had Gang-min and Do-ha had Eom-ji. We still don’t know what happened to Eom-ji but Do-ha claims he is innocent.

As for Syaon, suicidal thoughts are no joke and we hope she can receive treatment and counselling to help her out of the darkness she is in. It must have taken a toll on her to hear that Do-ha is thinking of ending their partnership. It would be wise for her to focus on herself and give up the one-sided feelings she has for him. Unfortunately, that is easier said than done.
