Maestra Strings of Truth (마에스트라) tells the story of violinist Cha Se-eum who is now the conductor of an orchestra. While she has reached a stage that is envied by all with her hard work and passion, Se-eum has a secret that can change her life forever. And so it does when a mysterious case takes place in the orchestra and she takes a look into it. The drama is a remake of the French show Philharmonia which aired in 2019.
The scene starts with Se-eum’s last visit to her mother where she begins violently coughing in front of her while begging her to not call for help so that she can end this torture. However, Se-eum calls the doctors and they save her mother on time, but not for long as she passes away the very same evening.
After her funeral, Se-eum visits her mother along with her father and friend and plays the violin for her mother while remembering their time together. The father-daughter duo miss the person who has left them but life goes on and Se-eum soon returns to work, surprising everyone.
Meanwhile, Kim Phil is surrounded by chaos from all sides due to Jeong-jae’s interference when Yu-ra arrives and questions him when he tells her that the documentary cannot happen. Elsewhere, Se-eum announces a blind audition to evaluate the performance of the members of the orchestra.
This causes tension among the members and A-jin blames Se-eum for doing this to get her out of the orchestra. Se-eum denies her suspicions and tells her that she wouldn’t go to such lengths to get her out. The members soon begin to practise for the upcoming performance evaluation, elsewhere, Bong-ju plans a surprise for Se-eum and Jeong-jae.
The next day, the test begins and Se-eum fishes out two members who haven’t performed up to the mark, and tells them to leave as she is suspicious of them indulging in drugs. Her suspicion turns right as the two later consume drugs only to get caught by the police who also come to arrest Se-eum the next day.
Se-eum is surprised to see them as well as narcotics in her office, following which she is taken for interrogation. She denies the charges as she has a clear conscience while Jeong-jae sends a lawyer for her defense and looks for ways to get her out as soon as possible. Right then, Luna calls him and tells her that she saw Bong-ju walk out of Se-eum’s office on the day of the blind audition.
She was suspicious as he was in disguise but was sure that he was the one who set Se-eum up. Jeong-jae thanks her and gets to work; soon he gets his hands on Bong-ju’s henchman. He talks to him in a threatening tone while letting him know that his club is now shut due to Bong-ju, after which he sends him to the police as a witness.
Soon, Se-eum is let go and Jeong-jae takes her home, letting her know it is because Bong-ju wanted to get back at him that she got pulled into this mess. The next day, Se-eum goes to work but is surprised by the influence this incident has had on her work, especially when she is asked to go back home by Sang-do.
This frustrates Se-eum as she gets drunk at home, during which she gets a call from Bong-ju who asks her to meet him in front of Hanphil. Se-eum goes to meet him in her drunk state and blacks out, only to open her eyes in her office with blood on her hand. She is confused, following which she gets a call letting her know that Bong-ju is dead.
The show is taking another thrilling turn as Se-eum finds herself in a mess bigger than the previous one each week. Se-eum is living a challenging life at this point as she strives to end her career on a high note but is only surrounded by problems one after another.
As for this week, while Jeong-jae can easily be blamed for the problem he has unintentionally caused Se-eum, it is Bong-ju who has too much time on his hands to go around messing up others’ lives. Meanwhile, Kim Phil has just got another chance to mess up Se-eum more than he has already done.
Se-eum is a true example of femme-fatale and knows how to make us eagerly look forward to how she cleans up these situations each week.
