Maestra: Strings of Truth (2023) K Drama Episode 6

Episode 6 of Maestra: Strings of Truth begins with Phil saying Jung-hwa wanted to see Se-eum. However, Jung-hwa screams and breaks Ru-na’s violin. She tells Se-eum the monster is coming for her and faints. She is taken to the hospital while Jeong-jae glares at Phil who looks smug. The chairs wonder what happened to Jung-hwa and find it strange that Phil brought her to visit.

The doctor tells Se-eum that her mother doesn’t have much time. When asked what the first symptoms are, she reveals that the senses start to dull. Diagnosed patients also get violent as they are upset their loved ones have to see them in a weak state. A flashback shows Jung-hwa crying after choking Se-eum.

Jeong-jae waits at the hospital and takes Se-eum home. He wants to help with revenge but she says she’ll handle Phil. However, she finds her husband at her suite where he gets violent. He points out that he doesn’t make empty threats. She will agree to the documentary on them or he will tell everyone about Jung-hwa’s disease.

Meanwhile, Hanphil struggles to pay for the damages but Jeong-jae swoops in and saves the day. Su-jin’s clique judges Ru-na for her low-rent violin, but Se-eum gives her violin to Ru-na. The conductor also books a hall for rehearsals but she is harsh with the critiques even though they are struggling because of the damage and rentals. Outside, Bong-ju watches Jeong-jae from afar. As for Phil, he is furious as Se-eum files a petition for divorce.

The City Orchestra is annoyed to learn that their concert piece is the same as Hanphil’s – a Brahms symphony. The chairs know she did it to garner buzz and Sang-do refuses to change the piece.

At that moment, Jung-hwa’s disease is leaked online. Journalists find out and show up at Hanphil even though Jeong-jae takes down the news articles. However, Se-eum readily talks to them as she is healthy and will step down if she ever shows symptoms. A shocked Phil tries to convince her that he isn’t the one who leaked it.

She knows as she did it. He brought her mother into it, so she just took it a step further. And in turn, ruined his leverage so he could not threaten her any more. Elsewhere, Jeong-jae accuses Hangil of the leak as he leads KVN and was the first to break the news. But Han-gil reveals that Se-eum gave them the information and Jeong-jae is impressed.

At home, she tells Hye-jeong and her dad about the divorce. Mr. Cha apologises for letting Phil in on their secret. But she feels light as the burden has been lifted. Having failed, Phil avoids Yoo-ra but she is adamant on getting the documentary. Meanwhile, Jeong-jae funds Yeongsung International Music Festival and has Phil removed as art director.

Ru-na finds and returns a pen engraved with Jung-hwa’s name in the violin’s case. A flashback shows Se-eum comforting her mother that she is fine and she understands why she accidentally choked her as Jung-hwa cries and apologises. Se-eum changes the topic as she wants her mother’s pen as her graduation gift.

At present, Se-eum carries it with her as she visits her mother. She confesses that she is scared of how much Jung-hwa has changed and that she may also become like her. Jung-hwa recognises her, apologises and assures her that the monster won’t get to her. However, at that moment, she gets an attack and begs Se-eum to kill her instead of calling the nurse.

It cuts to Se-eum performing at the concert while Mr. Cha watches the nurses trying to revive Jung-hwa and fail. As she dies, Se-eum finishes the concert and tears up at the end of Maestra: Strings of Truth Episode 6.

The Episode Review

We keep forgetting that Jeong-jae is as bad as Phil, with him thinking he owns her life and whatnot. But maybe that’s the charm – because he is not perfect it makes it entertaining to watch him. Do we hate or root for him? Can we do both?

And so far, Se-eum has been the cool, aloof female lead who does have a heart which bleeds and cares. But that’s been about it. But Maestra: Strings of Truth Episode 6 shows just how badass she is and how far she will go for love and revenge. She knows her own value and how to play the game.

The pacing is getting a bit strange though as we are way past the point of exposition and setting up the plot. We are at the halfway mark and we are only getting single scenes of Bong-ju, Tae-ho, Su-jin and the detectives. What is the overarching plot? Is there any? Or are we going to keep getting episodic mini-stories?
