“The Last Empress” Takes No. 1 In Time Slot As “The Best Chicken” Premieres To Strong Ratings
Jan 3, 2019
As SBS’s “The Last Empress” continues to dominate the Wednesday-Thursday drama ratings battle, MBN’s “The Best Chicken” has gotten off to a strong start!
According to Nielsen Korea, “The Last Empress” maintained its winning streak at the top of its time slot on January 2, scoring average nationwide viewership ratings of 12.5 percent during its first half and 15.8 percent during its second. Although “The Last Empress” fell short of its own personal ratings record of 15.1 percent and 17.9 percent (for its December 27 broadcast), the drama still easily took first place in its time slot across all channels by a wide margin.
Meanwhile, MBN’s new romantic comedy “The Best Chicken,” which stars Park Sun Ho and former I.O.I member Kim So Hye, also entered the fray. The drama enjoyed a successful premiere, scoring average viewership ratings of 4.9 percent for its first episode. (Viewership ratings are calculated slightly differently for dramas that air on cable networks.)
Despite its brief hiatus over the holidays, tvN’s “Encounter” made a successful return with strong viewership ratings of 7.8 percent for its January 2 episode. MBC’s “Children of Nobody” also remained steady with average ratings of 4.5 percent and 5.1 percent for the night.
