tvN’s upcoming drama “Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born” has unveiled new stills ahead of its premiere tomorrow!
Based on a popular webtoon, “Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born” is directed by Jung Ji In, known for “The Red Sleeve.” Set in the 1950s, shortly after the Korean War, the drama follows Jeong Nyeon (Kim Tae Ri), a young vocal prodigy who dreams of becoming a top traditional theater actor. The show explores Jeong Nyeon’s journey through competition, teamwork, and personal growth amid a difficult era for the nation.
The newly released stills capture Yoon Jeong Nyeon’s first experience watching gukgeuk, a traditional Korean theatrical performance. With her older sister Yoon Jeong Ja (Oh Kyung Hwa), Jeong Nyeon arrives in Mokpo to watch a performance by the Maeran Women’s Gukguek-dan, the most popular troupe of the era. Jeong Nyeon’s excitement is palpable as she beams and holds up her hand enthusiastically, unable to contain her joy at finding the theater in the bustling streets of Mokpo.
When the performance begins, the troupe’s star actors—Moon Ok Kyung (Jung Eun Chae), playing the lead male role, and Seo Hye Rang (Kim Yoon Hye), in the female lead—deliver a spectacular and emotional performance that immediately captivates the audience. Jeong Nyeon, unable to take her eyes off the stage, is completely entranced, marking the fateful moment when she falls in love with traditional theater.
In the first episode, Jeong Nyeon, blessed with a natural gift for singing but living a modest life selling fish in a coastal village, encounters the famous Moon Ok Kyung when the Maeran Women’s Gukguek-dan arrives for a tour in her hometown. This meeting ignites her dream to become a traditional theater actress, despite facing opposition from her mother Yong Rye (Moon So Ri), who is firmly against her pursuing the life of a singer.
“Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born” premieres on October 12 at 9:20 p.m. KST.
