“Exhuma” Becomes 1st Korean Occult Horror Film To Surpass 7 Million Moviegoers

Mar 8, 2024

“Exhuma” has made history at the South Korean box office!

On March 9, the Korean Film Council announced that as of the day before (March 8), “Exhuma” had officially reached a total of 7,009,491 moviegoers. The hit film tells the story of two exorcists (played by Kim Go Eun and Lee Do Hyun), a mortician (Yoo Hae Jin), and a feng shui master (Choi Min Sik) who relocate mysterious graves in exchange for a hefty sum of money.

With this achievement, “Exhuma” has now become the first Korean occult horror film in box office history to surpass 7 million moviegoers.

“Exhuma” also took less than 16 days to hit the 7 million mark—meaning it reached the milestone four days faster than “12.12: The Day,” which was Korea’s biggest box office hit of 2023.

In honor of the film’s latest achievement, director Jang Jae Hyun posed for a celebratory photo with stars Choi Min Sik, Kim Jae Chul, Kim Go Eun, and Yoo Hae Jin. (Lee Do Hyun is currently serving in the military.)
