Arrest With Detention Warrant Issued For Microdot’s Father

On April 11, Judge Lee Bo Kyung of the Jecheon Branch of Cheongju District Court issued a detention warrant for Microdot’s father, referred to as Mr. Shin.
The Jecheon police station said, “At around 7 p.m., the arrest with detention warrant requested by the Jecheon police station was issued for Mr. Shin, who is suspected of fraud, after a review of the warrant.” They added, “We will carry out the necessary supplementary investigation into the defendants. We cannot disclose the details of the investigation process.”
The warrant was issued due to concerns that he might abscond. The police sought a detention warrant for Microdot’s mother earlier as well, but it was dismissed.
Microdot’s father said, “I will faithfully take part in the investigation. I’m here to work this out. Please wait.” To the victims, he then said, “I’m sorry.”
Microdot’s parents owned a dairy farm in Jecheon, North Chungcheong Province, and in 1998, they took out hundreds of millions of won in loans from a livestock association, leaving relatives and acquaintances as joint guarantors and fleeing without anyone knowing. They moved to New Zealand and later appeared on a variety show starring Microdot in October last year only to face a storm of protests from the victims.
Upon their arrival in Korea, Microdot’s parents enraged the public and some of the victims once again by saying that they “had no choice.” It’s been reported that they managed to reach an agreement with eight out of 14 victims.
