Kang Hee Soo, previously known as a skilled but unknown baduk player, crosses paths with Prince Lee In and falls in love with him. However, fate takes a twist as she becomes a spy with a mission for revenge. Her journey involves approaching King Lee In, adding complexities to their intertwined destinies.
The episode starts off from the previous episode’s ending where Mong-woo and the King glare at each other. Upon asking for the truth behind Mong-woo’s return, he simply says that he has not returned for revenge. However, the King doesn’t buy his story. He says to Mong-woo that according to him, he is long gone and dead, hence killing him is a child’s play. The King adds that from then on he’d be his patron and that he should only listen to him and come to the palace anytime he summons.
Mong-woo agrees and returns home. He knows he is being tailed by the King’s men. Inside the home, Mong-woo removes the disguise and leads the night as Hee-soo. Hee-soo then collapses to the ground and this worries her maid. Her maid demands that she doesn’t go back to the palace anymore but Hee-soo says she fell sick due to the sun’s heat and that she has to return.

The next day, Hee-soo goes to the palace as Mong-woo and waits for the King’s order. Meanwhile, he uses a way to call in Myung-ha and it works. Mong-woo asks Myung-ha whether he’d like to join his revenge plan but the latter declines. The Queen Dowager gets mad at the sight of Mong-woo as she believes if the King keeps having a gaming friend, he’d never spend time with his wife, the Queen and bear a son. Hence the Queen Dowager plans to make the Queen summon Mong-woo and make him work for her.
The King summons Mong-woo to the gaming place and they play Baduk. Mong-woo sets a bet that if he wins, his request must be granted and the King agrees. However the game ends with a tie and they plan for another day. Myung-ha learns that Hyun-bo is back to Joseon and one day when he sees him, he controls his anger and walks away. Hyun-bo is aware of Mong-woo’s presence and wishes to use him once again.

The same day when Mong-woo is on his way to the gaming court, Myung-ha guides him through another route so that he won’t meet Hyun-bo, the man who caused distress. As Myung-ha and Mong-woo cross the blossom tree, Mong-woo once again asks Myung-ha whether he wants to join the plan and he declines. Just then the King comes and sees them two. He sends Mong-woo away and asks Myung-ha whether he is the reason behind Mong-woo’s appearance and whether they’re plotting something. Myung-ha bows down and apologises stating that no such act is carried out.
That day the King sends Mong-woo home and doesn’t summon him for the game. The following day, the Queen summons Mong-woo due to the Queen Dowager’s command. Mong-woo knowing the risk helps the Queen out. Just in time when the King arrives, they carry out a wise plan and make it look like the Queen summoned Mong-woo to ask whether he can train the Grand Prince (the son of the King’s late brother). The Grand Prince also plays along and the King believes.

However in private, the King asks how Mong-woo saved the Queen, showing that he was aware of the play. The King tells Mong-woo that he has now earned the wrath of Queen Dowager, his mother. Mong-woo says that the King will help him and the King indeed agrees to protect him. The following day, the Grand Prince and his elder sister come to the spot to learn Baduk from Mong-woo. When they arrive they see Myung-ha who is well-recognised by the Grand Prince’s elder sister. They share a warm moment (as they’re cousins).
Later, Myung-ha and Mong-woo have a conversation about the revenge plan again. Myung-ha hugs Mong-woo and says that he doesn’t want to hurt him/her and agrees to join the plan. From a distance, the King sees the two hugging and the episode ends.
So many people are trying to use the King for their personal gain and that’s for sure. The Queen Dowager simply wants her younger son that is the current King to bear a son so he can ascend the throne next. She simply doesn’t want her late elder son’s son, to become a heir. Meanwhile, the King is tired of everything and is focused on protecting his people. However, he knows he has to always be on watch and there are hardly one or two people he can trust.

Though he trusts them, he doesn’t have anyone to share a special strong bond with. In fact his wife, the Queen is also trying her best to get close to him but he hardly meets her and treats her well. He simply doesn’t bother about his wife and concubines. It’s evident that Mong-woo is the first and only person he has trusted but since he’s done a grave mistake, he has to be careful.
