Actresses Bae Doona and Kim Si Eun posed for a pictorial with Elle Korea!
After wrapping up their photo shoot for the February issue of the magazine, the two actresses from the thrilling drama film “Next Sohee” sat down for an interview to talk about their highly-anticipated movie.
“Next Sohee” is a film about a high school student named Sohee, who begins on-site training at a call center, and a detective named Yoojin, who becomes suspicious of an incident that unfolds there.
Bae Doona, who plays Yoojin in the film, commented, “Since I’ve been constantly doing work in the U.S., it’s been nearly 10 months since the two of us have seen each other like this. When I look back on our time filming, I have nothing but happy memories. We filmed in an atmosphere that made it feel like I was with my family.”
Kim Si Eun, who plays Sohee, remarked that one of her most vivid memories from filming was the bitter cold that they had to deal with on set. “It’s funny that a year has passed since the filming period, so the movie is premiering in a similar season,” she noted.
When asked about the charms of “Next Sohee” and her titular role, Kim Si Eun said, “For me, my very first thought was that I hoped this story could make it out into the world. That’s because even though I wish it weren’t true, I believe that the ‘next’ Sohee is out there right now.”
Meanwhile, Bae Doona commented, “As the person who was playing Yu Jin, I felt like I was hitting a rock with an egg, I was so frustrated and even burst into tears.”
She went on to compare her character to the PD (producing director) of the TV program “Unanswered Questions,” a Korean investigative journalism program that focuses on unsolved mysteries and current events. Bae Doona explained how, even though the viewers never see the PD, the questions thrown their way by the PD allow them to understand the messages the PD wants to convey. “I thought that Yu Jin’s role was a lot like the face of that PD.”
The two were then asked if there had recently been any moments where they truly felt the beauty of the world. Kim Si Eun answered, “The sunrise I saw at Namhansanseong was particularly memorable. There was a high school student there who yelled, ‘Happy New Year!’ So everyone there called back together, ‘Happy New Year!’ I yelled with them too.”
Bae Doona said, “I don’t think there’s any existence that is as good, warm, and kind as children. Whenever I see children, I just hope that they can live feeling the soft happiness of right now.”
“Next Sohee” will be coming to the big screen on February 8. In the meantime, Bae Doona and Kim Si Eun’s full interview will be available in the February issue of Elle Korea.
