A Shop for Killers (2024) K Drama Episode 7

A Shop for Killers Episode 7 starts with a group of three Japanese men receiving a large box from Jin-man. They take a few guns from the box and then close it, not touching the other “pretty package”. The package turns out to be a woman — Min-hye — who is found when another man opens the box. She shows the man a message from Jin-man, asking him to take care of her for a while.

A flashback shows Jin-man and his entire family taking a portrait. The scene shifts to a hospital, where Jin-man’s mother tells him to check in on his brother once in a while and spend time with Ji-an too.

The man from the first scene, known as Honda, finds a brown package on the doorstep of his hardware store. He takes it inside, all the way to a secret underground hideout. He opens the package to find different parts of a gun and begins to assemble them. When he sees someone at the front door, he takes his gun and heads out. But it’s only Jin-man. Min-hye is ecstatic to see him.

Later, when Min-hye is asleep, the men discuss Bale’s whereabouts. Honda, a mute, assures Jin-man that Bale is dead. He then suggests that Jin-man work for him. Anyway, he’s planning on expanding his arms business into an online shopping mall. Apparently, his younger brother is a whizz at computers. Jin-man is also surprised to hear that Min-hye assembled a gun on her own.

The scene shifts to an abandoned building where Bale, Seong-jo and a bunch of others discuss how to get back at Jin-man. Jun-cheol, one of the men, is uncomfortable with attacking Jin-man’s family. They get into an argument. At the hospital, Bale kills Jin-man’s mother by smothering her with a hand.

We then see the scene at the funeral where Jin-man suggests an autopsy, followed by him leaving for home with Ji-an in tow. After he leaves, Seong-jo shoes up. A group of men in a car check the security cameras as he goes upstairs and erases Seong-jo from the footage. He meets with Jin-man’s brother and sister-in-law and gets them up to the rooftop.

Meanwhile, Jin-man messages Honda to check the security footage at the hospital. At home, Honda hands his brother some food before getting back to work. On the rooftop, Jin-man’s relatives suffer a slow and painful death. That’s when Jun-cheol calls Jin-man and tells him Bale is out to get him. Jin-man messages Honda to protect Ji-an. Honda’s brother complains about him going out but Honda promises to come back before dinner. Well, we know he won’t be able to.

Honda makes it in time to save Ji-an from the first attacker but ultimately loses the fight with Seong-jo, who cuts his hand off for the shiny gold knuckle band he’s wearing. Meanwhile, Jin-man himself is under a hail of bullets led by none other than Jun-cheol, who was never really on his side. But of course, Jin-man has a machine gun and a bulletproof shield in the car that helps him get away from the others.

At Honda’s hardware store, Min-hye sees two men break inside through the security cameras. They are looking for her but she uses a bucket of acid and well-aimed shots to save herself. She then packs a bag and presses a button that sets fire to the whole place before she leaves it.

Meanwhile, Pasin comes home to find his front door unlocked. Inside is Jin-man, bloody and weak from bullet wounds. When he wakes up, Pasin asks him why he tried to kill Bale in the first place. He says it was to set things right since he was the one who lied to keep Bale out of jail. Pasin gives him a gun with thirteen rounds.

While Bale beats one of his team members, Yong-han turns up. He tells Bale to stop here and promises him that the company will make an example of Jin-man. At the hospital, Ji-an runs from her attacker and hides in the morgue. Jin-man attacks the men waiting outside in the car and then enters the hospital. Elsewhere, Bale is driving and tells Seong-jo on the phone that he must be the one to end Jin-man.

Jin-man takes care of the attacker and picks up Ji-an. In the passageway, he comes face to face with Bale. Thankfully, a crowd of mourners passes in between them and Jin-man escapes. Yong-han comes home to find Jin-man there, pretending to be a guest invited by Yong-han. In private, Jin-man tells Yong-han he could have killed his family but didn’t. He tells Yong-han to end the fight here and Yong-han calls Bale, telling him to stop as well. Bale just laughs.

While Ji-an sleeps, Jin-man speaks with Pasin, saying that he needs a long-term plan for protection. The next thing we see is the field with Jin-man’s new house, where he tells Pasin they’re going to build an underground mall. He also picks up Honda’s brother and gets him there. Pasin approaches Min-hye, who was working at a restaurant.

After Ji-an moves in, Brother works for Jin-man at the warehouse while Pasin trains Min-hye. But Jin-man continues to have nightmares about Bale. One day, Jin-man teaches Ji-an how to assemble and shoot a gun at the end of A Shop for Killers Episode 7.

The Episode Review

A Shop for Killers Episode 7 continues from the previous episode and shows us Jin-man’s point of view in the past. It fills up a lot of gaps and ties things together, showing us how Jin-man and Ji-an got to where they are. Honda, Brother and Min-hye’s origins are all explained. But it’s a shame that the show seems to have forgone the dual narrative of the early episodes.

It is a fresh and original way of telling the story. It kept things interesting and as a result, this one-sided episode feels a bit monotonous. The pace feels dragged down as well and the episode doesn’t offer much that couldn’t have fit into the previous format.

Of course, it is still a really good episode. The story is executed well, with some thrilling action sequences and aesthetic visuals. It’s also incredibly enjoyable to watch Lee Dong-wook go a little feral while trying to protect Ji-an. And that ending, oof. Jin-man’s tagline, ‘Listen up, Ji-an’ isn’t going to be forgotten anytime soon.
