The 2022 MAMA Awards is gearing up to return in an exciting new way!
On November 16, the press conference for the 2022 MAMA Awards took place. Following its rebranding, this year’s MAMA will take place at Osaka’s Kyocera Dome in Japan over two days from November 29 to 30.
At the press conference, Convention Content Director Lee Sun Hyung remarked on the prestige of the ceremony, stating, “The evaluation and award presentation for MAMA Awards will take place regardless of whether an artist attends the ceremony or not. We will continue to heighten the prestige of the awards ceremony through clear standards and a fair process going forward.” Lee Sun Hyung explained that MAMA Awards is a well-rounded ceremony that divides its awards in to the categories for Worldwide Fans’ Choice, artists, and genres.
Like last year, the totaling of the votes and verification of the process will be carried out by Samil PwC, which is a member of the PwC that manages the voting for the Academy Awards.
CP (Chief Producer) Yoon Shin Hye shared that this year’s MAMA concept is “K-Pop World Citizenship” (the idea that one’s identity transcends geography or political borders). She shared, “It captures the meaning that in the K-pop World, we love K-pop and that we are one community connected by music and that we should unite through music. We will work hard to deliver the positive influence music has.”
The November 29 portion of the ceremony will be the Worldwide Fans’ Choice category with the sub-title of “A World We Create.” On November 30, the awards will be presented for the artist categories and genre categories. The ceremony will also present an expansive K-pop stage, the meeting of K-culture, and a story under the sub-title of “We Are K-pop.”
CP Yoon Shin Hye further revealed that Jeon Somi and Park Bo Gum will be the hosts of this year’s ceremony. Jeon Somi will host Day 1, while Park Bo Gum will host Day 2.
Finally, the new trophy this year will be called the “Hyper Cube,” maintaining the same shape of a cube that MAMA Awards has showcased over the past 21 years. The lines at the bottom were shaped by various rays of light to represent that fans and artists are infinitely linked and evolving. The many sides of the Hyper Cube represent challenge, passion, dreams, growth, expansion, and uniqueness.
