2 Police Officers Booked For Poorly Investigating Hwang Ha Na’s 2015 Drug Case

On April 22, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s Intellectual Crime Investigation Team revealed that they have booked two police officers for charges of dereliction of duty.
According to the police, these two officers worked as part of the Intellectual Crime Investigation Team at the Jongno Police Station in 2015 when Hwang Ha Na was being investigated by the police for suspicions of violating the Narcotics Control Act.
A source from the police said, “When combining testimonies from people related to the case and the investigation records at the time, [we discovered] that the [officers] in charge of [the case] did not carry out a particular investigation after booking Hwang [Ha Na], who was [suspected as] the drug distributor.”
The police are also analyzing the cell phones of the two officers, who have been removed from their positions while the investigation is underway, to see if they have ties to Hwang Ha Na or her family members.
In 2015, a college student named Cho was sentenced to two years and six months in prison with a suspension period of three years for using Philopon. The ruling stated that it was Hwang Ha Na who sold Cho 0.5 grams of Philopon and took drugs with her, but Hwang Ha Na’s case was sent to the prosecution by the police with the suggestion of non-indictment, and the prosecution also acquitted her.
