“12.12: The Day” Becomes 1st Korean Non-Sequel Film To Surpass 6 Million Moviegoers Since 2020 Pandemic

Dec 8, 2023

“12.12: The Day” continues to draw crowds at the Korean box office!

On December 9, the Korean Film Council announced that as of 12:02 a.m. KST that day, “12:12 The Day” had officially reached a total of 6,000,754 moviegoers. The film was originally released on November 22, meaning that it took less than 18 days to reach the milestone.

Not only is “12.12: The Day” the second-fastest Korean film released in 2023 to hit the 6 million mark (after “The Roundup: No Way Out”), but it is also the first Korean film that is not a sequel or part of a series to surpass 6 million moviegoers since the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020.

Starring Hwang Jung Min, Jung Woo Sung, Lee Sung Min, and more, “12.12: The Day” is a historical film about the real-life military coup that shook South Korea following the assassination of President Park Chung Hee in 1979.

Congratulations to the cast and crew of “12.12: The Day”!
